Hi, I am Sue Middleton. A little about me: I grew up in Los Angeles, California. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, degrees in marriage and family therapy and clinical social work, as well as a doctorate in family sociology.

I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, identity struggles, betrayal trauma, pornography addiction, marriage issues, spiritual identity, faith crisis, mixed faith marriages, and problematic patterns that prevent you from being happy. I work particularly well with teens and their parents–and have experience working in adolescent residential treatment. I also work well with issues relating to adoption and attachment.

Each client who enters my office desires deeper personal connections, less stress and more hope. Hi ! If you are feeling emotionally bankrupt in one or many relationships, I can help. My experience has been deeply rooted in the precious commodity of felt safety and what happens to people when that flourishes or fades. One of my passions has been in creating shift in family interaction, where trauma has created old and fresh wounds that show up in todays experiences. I am a narcissist survivor. I needed help making sense of my experiences. I understand emotional abuse, single motherhood, divorce, trauma and the heartache of feeling alone and unimportant. I also work with couples and will help you get through the rough patches and improve the quality of your relationship.

I strive to be relationship focused in all I do as a counselor, even in my individual work. I believe the research and have observed how loneliness hurts: we thrive when connected and struggle when isolated. I utilize EFT and the Gottman Method with couples; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children. I utilize ACT and Arbinger principles in most of my work. I foster connections with my clients but especially between clients and their people, including their spiritual Connection.

In life, difficult situations occur. These experiences can make us anxious, question ourselves and our self-worth, and affect our ability to connect with others and plan for the future we desire. Through EMDR, ART, and a mix of other empirically based modalities, it is possible to heal from past trauma, feel more empowered, and increase life satisfaction generally. I have been in the field for twenty years and a therapist for thirteen. I have also been an administrator, supervisor, and trainer for therapists. During that time, I have come to appreciate how change is possible in our lives and in our relationships with others.

As a marriage and family therapist, I have successfully helped many individuals (single adults, college students, and adolescents), couples, and families through the difficulties faced with normal family problems, as well as diagnostically challenging issues. I have worked with people who come from all over Utah Valley. I have extensive experience working with adolescents and families.
