Greetings! I'm Brynn Shaver, a dedicated Qualified Mental Health Professional originally hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, now nestled in the beautiful landscapes of Bend, Oregon. My professional journey has been deeply influenced by my own experiences with eating disorders, religious trauma, relationship trauma, and a journey of identity exploration. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the complexities of the human experience and have motivated me to pursue a career in therapy. Through my personal struggles and identity exploration, I've gained invaluable insights into the challenges individuals face.

Therapy, Altered best supports BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, families, and groups who are healing from abuse, neglect, or psychological trauma, including racial/systemic oppression. Our clients know that hope is out there, and that they have the ability to heal and feel better. Most of our clients hold multiple marginalized identities while managing complex mental health challenges. Our clients come to us seeking culturally relevant services and authentic relationship with clinicians who share some of their lived experience.

There are many paths to wellness. People enter therapy to address a wide range of concerns, from anxiety, crisis, depression, trauma, and shame. Others are exploring more about themselves, relationships, reflecting upon past patterns, and developing new strategies for living. My intention is to create an authentic, non-judgmental, safe environment in which I can join you on your journey of self-compassion, exploration, and growth. I am passionate about living in a world that is safe for all. I strive in my practice to be sensitive to concerns regarding intersectionality, marginalization, and oppression.

I hold certificates in CBT trauma for children and adults, have worked with domestic violence groups, as well as participated in parenting groups and helped lead emotionally focused groups for children ages 5 to 12. I have also counseled couples through issues of trust, dysfunction, and infidelity. In the coming months I look to complete certificate programs in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, a trauma/PTSD focused protocol), geriatric populations and their unique issues and challenges, as well as refine my trauma skills by continuing in trauma focused interventions through CBT as well as art therapy.

I bring an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, social justice lens to my work. I have spent my career helping young adults feel safe, seen and understood.
