Hi, I am Rob Bakker. I was born in the Netherlands and moved to the U.S. in 1998 to play soccer and tennis at Xavier University. In 2015 I was inducted into Xavier’s athletic Hall of Fame. After achieving my MBA at Xavier, I have had professional roles in business as well as in sports. I decided to combine my passion for excelling at high levels with my passion for people and completed the Mental Health Counseling program at Xavier with a focus on performance counseling.

Sometimes we all need a safe space to share our stories with a caring and unbiased listener, and I want to provide that for you. I have been in the mental health field for over 20 years and licensed as a Professional Counselor since 2004. With experience working with many different types of people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, panic, mental and physical illnesses, relationship issues and so on, I am passionate about helping college students, couples, internationals, jobseekers and adults of any age who are seeking emotional healing, mental health, support and direction for their life's struggles and spiritual questions.

At my practice, we treat a wide variety of patients. For some, it is his or her first time at therapy and there may be some trepidation about starting the process. For others, we have been one of many therapists in his or her life. Each patient brings a unique and fascinating set of thoughts, feelings and behaviors all of which require a specific method of treatment. It is wonderful work! We hope that everyone can have the chance to explore psychotherapy in his or her life, be it for a single session or many more.

With a background in yoga, Pilates, and essential oils, I embarked on a journey to integrate holistic wellness practices into mental health counseling. My passion for holistic healing led me to pursue a career as a holistic health coach, followed by a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

In my 30 years of experience as a child and adult clinical psychologist, I have developed a diverse set of assessment and therapeutic skills, allowing me to provide optimal care to children, adults and families. I am a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), and my specialties include helping families going through the difficulties of divorce, parent coordination, preserving a cooperative and collaborative environment to keep the children's best interests a priority, and conducting court-ordered custody evaluations. Attorneys and courts frequently request these services in order to help resolve child custody and parenting disputes.

I received my Master of Arts in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at the University of Iowa and a Bachelor degree in Psychology with honor thesis at the same institution. I currently hold an LPCC-S license in Ohio and LCPC in Idaho.

Taking care of our emotional well-being is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, especially when we experience the highs and lows in life. With a little bit of support, I am a firm believer that everyone can navigate through these highs and lows, but sometimes we need a helping hand to do so. I have been in the field since November 2020, and I have developed a professional interest in trauma, anxiety, depression, and struggles with life changes. If you are looking to heal from the past or cope with the present, I offer the analysis, encouragement, and constructive confrontation that will set you up for ongoing mental wellness and stability.

I know finding a good fit for a therapist is hard. And finding a good fit is critical to finding relief and healing. Feeling alone in the trauma, the grief and loss, the overwhelm, and just feeling stuck. It's exhausting, lonely, and I know you're sick of it by now. You get to have some guidance, laughs, and expertise as you go to your sessions, work on YOU outside of sessions, and start feeling more whole again. As for working with me and what it's like? I've been told I'm warm and humorous (usually at my own expense). I see you as the expert and me as the guide, and I will put you at ease right off the bat.
