I have many years of experience working with individuals who struggle with mental health and addiction problems. I use a skill-based approach to treatment called dialectical behavioral therapy. This type of treatment focuses on learning how to live in the moment, manage interpersonal relationships effectively, handle life's challenges with grace and competence, and understand and deal with feelings in constructive ways. Using my training and diagnostic knowledge I will develop a comprehensive treatment plan that emphasizes relapse prevention and living a life worth living. I work with a team of other mental health professionals including psychiatrists, and counselors.

When people reach out for help in dealing with life stressors, I respond in a timely, compassionate, respectful manner and seek to form a therapeutic relationship built on acceptance and trust. I help patients to find new ways to use their existing strengths in areas they find stressful and difficult. I seek out and harness their motivation to change and to enhance coping skills to effectively manage ongoing difficulties and to construct a life worth living. Therapy is a partnership that assists in functioning effectively in the present.

Do you or someone you love have to get sober, but struggles? Do others not understand why this is difficult, and sometimes impossible? I realize that when trying to get sober, it is important to have someone in your corner who can understand that you truly want to stop using, but just can't by yourself. My focus is a) combine our efforts to get started in sobriety, and b) learn and practice research proven coping skills to get past those overwhelming emotions in a supportive, accountable, non-threatening environment.

Has there ever been a time where you felt alone or that something wasn't working? Maybe you have tried to cope with these feelings or maybe you do not know where to start. I believe that these thoughts and feelings can be changed once we change the mindset. No matter what stage of life a client is in, my goal is for each client to feel accepted and supported. I desire for each client to recognize their strengths and utilize them to help grow through these difficult times. I can help to resolve conflicts, recognize strengths, increase confidence and communication skills.

Realistically speaking, life is not easy. This is especially true in the difficult times we are living in today, and is often compounded by the effects of trauma, grief, symptoms of anxiety or depression, and/or addiction. And reaching out for help once we realize we need it can be one of the toughest things to do. I am so proud of you for making this important step! Mental health and alcoholism/addiction can be hard topics to discuss and treat. They often are accompanied by a stigma that can leave people/families feeling hopeless, embarrassed, or ashamed. As a clinician I can help provide a nonjudgmental, safe space to discuss any mental health/substance abuse problems. My role as a counselor allows both myself and the client to come up with effective solutions that can assist with the treatment of any reoccurring mental health/substance abuse disorders. I use cognitive behavioral therapy with a person centered approach.

Racheal Wilson (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who is supervised by Michael Pollak, PCC-S. She provides individual counseling to adolescents (16+) and adults. Her areas of focus include bipolar disorder, dual-diagnosis, substance-use disorders, schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders, complex trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

I’ve had the joy of working in the counseling field for over 25 years in multiple settings including: private practice, inpatient and outpatient, home-based, school-based and residential detox. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the states of Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina and have been offering counseling services since 1996. Currently, I also serve on the West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction & Prevention Professionals.
