My name is Meredith McCannon. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Missouri. My approach to therapy is client-centered and solution focused. I have a degree in Community counseling and have worked with all ages. The most common diagnosis is PTSD, MDD, GAD, Bi-polar, and borderline personality disorder. My therapeutic approach has a few theories involved. I used DBT and CBT for mindfulness and thought, feeling, behavior chain. I believe in building rapport and trust with clients to be able to work together on solutions.

My ideal client is an adult, couple, or family that has experienced loss or trauma and wants to feel connected to themselves, those they love, and their community again. The individual/s may be experiencing extreme anxiety, irritability, or depression and have been trying to keep picking themselves up, but are tired and concerned about what their future holds. They often find themselves using a variety of means to numb such as eating, substance use, gambling, pornography, sex, video games, etc. They experience emptiness and feel that they really have no sense of who they are or what they want and often feel alone and disconnected.

When life gives you lemons, stop on by. At times, it may feel impossible to keep up with this fast-paced world. When we experience overwhelm, it can take a toll on our mental health, causing feelings of disconnection and pain. Please know, if you are feeling this way, you can break free. I am a psychologist with several years of experience providing psychotherapy to adult clients, as well as adolescent clients who have been identified as gifted and/or creative. I specialize in LGBTQIA+-affirming care and working with visual artists, musicians, and clients engaged in additional creative endeavors. Past clients have come to therapy with symptoms of depression and anxiety as well as distress related to life/career transitions, the sociopolitical climate, and identity. Additionally, I have experience in ADHD assessment and assisting clients with managing symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

What makes counseling work? A study found that resilience, relationship and faith make a difference. Together we can figure out your capacity for resilience - yes you have a capacity for change. One of the best things about counseling is building relationship. You can't know someone without allowing them to know you. Building that relationship is my primary focus and greatest strength.
