I used a model of therapy called AEDP which focuses on healing.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW #23383) and psychotherapist, with a focus on issues related to human sexuality. Connection, intimacy, desire, love, and joy are the things in life that enrich our human experience. When we struggle with these, life can feel very lonely. I believe that you have endless potential but sometimes life can get in the way. My hope is to get some of the muck out of the way so you can be your best self on any given day.

My approach is rooted in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), which focuses on somatic and emotional experiences in service of giving rise to insight.
Healing is a process that we are not meant to do alone. I am here to help soften the barriers that prevent you from healing, and remove obstacles that block your full potential. During each session, I create a warm, non-judgemental space in which we can work together to unpack the challenges that you face in your life. I am committed to helping you overcome the root cause of your problems rather than simply rearranging what’s on the surface.

Over the past three years, I have been training in a therapy model called AEDP.
I work with clients experientially to feel deeply into their own emotions that may be locked away. I seek out glimmers of core emotion in the present moment -- that is where the magic or possibility for change lives. I help clients learn to relate to people in a healthier, more wholesome way -- this may be learning to reach out, or it may mean having a sense of what you need and want so you can get those needs met in your relationships. I work by listening closely and pushing clients know what's going on internally. I tell them what I am feeling and ask clients to be in touch with their bodies and feeling not just their thinking.

As a person struggling with substance use, you may have found yourself trying different treatment methods but not seeing the results you wanted. Maybe you're a person living with schizophrenia, and you haven't found a type of therapy that feels right. Or maybe you're new to this therapy thing, and you're wanting to hit the ground running? Whatever your experience has been, it can be scary to reach out and ask for help. You want to find someone you can connect with.

The point of therapy is to talk about your feelings. Is it really that simple? Well… yes and no. Emotion plays an important role in how the nervous system (brain, nerves, and spinal cord) works. Unfortunately, we often learn to push away or ignore our emotions, which prevents the nervous system from self-regulating. On a neurological level, processing our feelings helps us to adapt to stress and heal from trauma. That’s why bottling up our emotions is tied to depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems. So…the point of therapy is to talk about your feelings.

Psychotherapy is something that happens between people...you and me. It is a process that I expertly and sensitively guide, but it is something that we experience together. Relationships, past and present, may be a source of pain, frustration, or fear...but they are also the key to unlocking your full potential. Together, we will work to alleviate your most pressing problems as well as to develop a fuller understanding of the deeper, underlying issues that keep you stuck in emotional and relational patterns that limit your capacity to more fully give and receive love.

Sometimes life feels unmanageable. It might be that you have had a handle on things, but life turned upside down on you and it's no longer clear how to find stable ground. It might be that the foundations have never felt very secure and you need support as you figure out how to build that stability into your life. Sometimes we are managing life OK, but we recognize we need some support as we move toward the future we want to be living.

Psychotherapy is an activity between two people, working and talking together. It is not my expertise telling you what ails you; rather, it is a process in which I listen carefully to you, attempt to understand your experience and your feelings, and we work together to figure out what will help you feel better and function better in your relationships and in your life tasks. I think of my work as helping the clients' own instinctual striving for healthy development and connection to others to emerge, which I believe happens even in the most adverse circumstances.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Minnesota, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Minnesota listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
