I am a trained Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapist (TF CBT) that specialized in trauma, PTSD, early childhood trauma. I also work with ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder) anger issues, depression, self harm and suicidal, mental health issues. I also help those that have anxiety, body issues, self esteem. I love working with families, supporting them, with collaboration, helping the family have a positive and improved relationship with each other.

As a psychotherapist I have worked with students of all ages, grades 6-12 for quite some time and I have broadened my horizons to provide support to adults who seek change and stability in their lives. My only goal is to provide my clients a safe haven, a place where they can feel comfortable enough to disclose their personal issues. Therapy is a place where my clients can trust me enough to provide them with the courage, guidance, and support they need to begin to learn how to battle their struggles with ease.

Most of the people who work with me range from adolescents to adults and generally experience depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, have a history of suicide, trauma, and/or general trouble adjusting to changes in life. However, I also have experience working with grief and loss, family adjustment to autism diagnosis, general family concerns, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. I am trained in S.A.F.E. EMDR, integrative medicine for mental health, CBT, and TF-CBT. I have additional knowledge of sand tray, IFS, narrative therapy, and interpersonal neurobiology and draw on these in my therapy.

My career started in Early Childhood Education, where my passion for working with young children and their families directed me to grow expertise into additional areas by pursuing and excelling in the Oakland University Counseling Master's program. As a Counselor for the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, I was an acting subject matter expert for substance abuse, depressive and suicidal ideation, and schizoaffective disorders.

Val has been honored to serve parents, couples, children, and individuals for over a decade in clinical practice. Her work has been in treating families and children with emotional impairments, attachment-based work around maternal/paternal trauma, maternal depression, and anxiety, and/or other factors that impact relationships in pregnancy, infancy and early childhood, and working with people who need help anchoring to a life worth living that have engaged in self-harm or suicidal ideation. She uses a range of practice tools and knowledge that include active participation, mindfulness practice, and validation in heavy doses.
