Hi! My name is Aditi - I am a bilingual, bicultural first generation immigrant psychologist in the Greater Boston area. I offer a supportive and confidential space for you to explore your experiences, perhaps things you might not talk as openly to family or friends about and find ways to regulate your stress, reduce overwhelming feelings and weave new patterns of relating to yourself and others in your life. I provide therapy that is interpersonally oriented, affirming and culturally responsive. Together, we will work to set goals and build coping skills that help you navigate any changes and challenges in your life.

Joey specializes in sexual health for couples and individuals, an area she became more interested in midway through her career, when the limitation in sexual health competence in the field of general mental health work, especially for couples, troubled her. She thus decided to pursue training and hone her skills. It soon became a passion and a calling, and she has turned her focus since in understanding the various intersections of sexuality with culture, race, religion, gender, disability, age, and of course, sexual orientation. She respects and draws from both the traditional and the contemporary clinical models in her work.

Life’s challenges can often trigger complex emotions. Despite our best coping mechanisms, it can be overwhelming to understand what we are feeling and why. In therapy, I have a collaborative approach where I believe that you are the expert of your own experiences. Acting as a mirror, I provide a safe space where you can reflect upon your thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns. Through this process, my goal is to increase your self-compassion, resilience, and self-awareness so you can tap into your innate strengths and wisdom.

Most of us do the best we can with the resources we have. Sometimes we think no one understands our worries & fears. If open to it, we want to work with a therapist when our usual ways of relating aren't helping & we feel stuck, anxious, angry or depressed. Therapy often helps provide insight into our strengths & internal resources we already have to help navigate challenging times. In sessions, I focus on working with clients to unlock this strength to steer their lives in the direction they want. I bring curiosity, warmth, respect, & empathy to my sessions.

This practice is based upon the reality that a mother’s wellbeing cannot be understood or supported without respect for her “mom work.” Mom work is invisible work. So - mom worry, mom anxiety, mom blues, mom guilt, and most especially, mom anger, becomes a negative judgment of a mother's "normalcy," rather than what it truly is: mom reality. Not a diagnosis, not “what’s wrong with me,” not an inability to do the work. Just mom reality, unsupported by respect for her work, and ultimately, unsustainable. Unless we push back to reclaim this ancient journey. You may wish to glance at my website to explore what I mean by this.

Our unique life experiences influence how we relate to ourselves, and others. This is the lived lens through which we approach problems. We all have latent capabilities and skills to overcome challenges, but may find it hard to access them. It can be very helpful to speak with an objective person to gain insight and a better understanding of oneself. I work from an empowerment model, with a compassionate approach. I endeavor to build a therapeutic relationship founded on equality, trust and safety to achieve mutually agreed upon goals.
