My name is Melanie and I am a Substance Abuse Therapist and Program Director with a degree and diversified background in Human Services. I provide therapeutic services to individuals struggling with substance dependence and co-occurring disorders. I have experience in medical detox, residential, and outpatient care settings. I was inspired to name my business SPEAK counseling services because I truly believe that untreated mental health and substance abuse dependence stems from our inability to understand how it is our mind, emotions, and body is trying to speak to us. Similar to when we stub our pinky toe and we get a shot of pain ; our body will send us symptoms of anxiety, depression, recurrent dreams etc in an effort to communicate pain/discomfort. Since mental/emotional pain is a foreign and misunderstood language we often lean on behaviors that sooth It quickly (e.g addiction) this increases anxiety/depression as the pain is never truly managed.

I am a Board certified internist and Addiction specialist. I offer medical management for mental health issues like anxiety and depression. I specialize in Addiction with various substances like opiates, alcohol, cocaine use disorder and Cannabis use disorder.I am NOT a therapist but I am a life coach. I am licensed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Florida.

My life experience has given me compassion for a population of individuals with mental health disorders who flourish in life, given the opportunity.

My services are tailored to individuals struggling with a variety of mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, panic, mood disorder) and substance abuse issues. I work with all populations and provide home based therapy and outreach-- to the elderly-- and those diagnosed with complicated medical issues. My services are geared toward assessing one's baseline and identifying specific strengths, coping, limitations, vulnerabilities and grounding skills. I also incorporate the spiritual element of healing--which fosters personal growth for recovery.

My ideal client still chooses to show up regardless of their ambivalence towards their treatment goals. Even if this person is not entirely set on treatment, recovery, whatever it might be, your next steps can decide whether or not that individual returns. If I'm thinking more specifically about my own experience, I think a lot about the individuals I supported who were actively using substances. They could identify the harmful impacts and want recovery but couldn't get through their initial ambivalence. These types of moments and individuals are so important to me.

This individual is open to self-reflection and exploration, recognizing the significance of understanding past behaviors and patterns as a means to foster positive transformation. Emily Sheehan has worked in the field of substance use disorder for over 3 years. She is a certified Recovery Coach and passionate about helping others find recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. Emily is well versed in all aspects of the recovery care continuum. She is on the frontline in serving Emory Recovery patients through individual evaluations, treatment planning, crisis intervention and case management services.

Jade has been working in the field of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders for over three years. Jade is a certified recovery coach and she is currently studying to become a licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC). While Jade brings her education into her practice, she also has personal experiences with substance use disorder as she is in recovery herself. Jade is 6 years clean and sober off of drugs and alcohol. She knows the struggles and difficulties of overcoming ones addiction first hand.

As someone in personal recovery myself, I understand the challenges and fears in finding a treatment program that fits ones needs.
