My ideal client is anyone suffering from chemical or process addiction (gambling, sex, food, etc) or alcoholism. Addiction and alcoholism are tremendously destructive forces that leave us feeling alone, isolated, and often defeated, but this can be overcome and recovery is possible. First of all, let me say that I respect your decision to seek therapy, it shows emotional health and awareness. I believe that therapy is a tool to guide people to obtain the skills to be emotionally successful in their lives. I have extensive experience working with adults that grew up in families with addiction, personality disorders, and trauma. Greetings! The hardest thing to do in this world is to live in it. Reaching out for help can feel risky or daunting, especially as life changes around you. I view counseling as a collaborative relationship between the client and the counselor. This collaborative relationship allows the client and therapist to work together to address issues the client is facing through the development of mutually agreed upon clinical and personal goals. During therapy, I focus on patterns of thoughts, behaviors, moods, and communication that may contribute to client distress. I often address these issues utilizing Person-Centered, Systems, Cogitative Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (evidenced-based therapeutic practices).
