​Hi, My name is Lori Arceneaux. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience in adoption and maternity services as well as counseling. I have a particular interest and expertise in working with those touched by foster care and/or adoption. For the majority of my career, I have worked with children and teenagers. I enjoy working with these age groups and assisting them with navigating the often complex emotions that accompany adolescence. Also, I work with families and couples who are in need of assistance of strengthening and improving their relationships and addressing their life stressors.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in the New Orleans area. I work with people of all ages and backgrounds. My specializations of LGBTQI, Gender Dysphoria, Trauma, Attachment Disorders especially in children, depression and anxiety. I am also experienced in ABA and have a background in working with children with extreme behaviors. I am also well versed in polyamorous relationships and ethical non-monogamy. I also work with kinks and sexual expression.My therapeutic approach is eclectic as my background is Expressive Arts Therapy as well as Counseling Psychology.

I work with a variety of clients and am committed to each one equally. My focus is on the overall mental wellness of individuals according to each’s own unique needs; I am well-versed in theoretical orientations and multiculturalism. I engage with clients based on their individual needs, as each case is just as unique as the client(s). I work with the client(s) from their perspective and help them work towards their chosen goals. I navigate the client to achieve smaller, accomplishable goals that then create a building block for larger, more obtainable long-term goals while giving the client autonomy to enhance self-growth.

Raising a child in these uneasy times can be frustrating, confusing, and scary, and it’s okay that you’re feeling like you could use some support. As a counselor and “feelings expert,” I create a safe space for your child to explore emotions. I use play, art and activity-based approaches to help your child talk and play through their uncomfortable feelings. I love to sit on the floor, draw, build and have fun with children to help them open up to me. For your older children, I use activity-based therapy and talk therapy in session.

My primary work is helping families navigate the challenges of separation, divorce and remarriage. My goal is to keep children out of the middle of their parent's divorce. Extra help and support are often needed for families to be able to successfully navigate the challenges separation, divorce and remarriage can bring.

Through my life experience and education I believe developing supportive relationships has the power to reduce the effects of trauma for a child, parents and families. I approach therapy sessions differently depending on the client’s needs and goals. If it is the client’s goal to work on a current obstacle in life or lifetime of trauma I see it as an honor to help the client navigate the process of healing. Allowing a safe space for people to explore their emotions and develop skills to create a congruent environment around them and navigate the unknowns in life.

I have the experience of being a single, parent whom undergone domestic violence, I can assist in tackling this experience with a positive outlook. Counseling can appear to be overwhelming and intimidating. However it does not have to be this way. As we seek validation and acceptance in our lives, there are certain paths that we must take to find them. As a counselor, I have enjoyed the privilege of working with clients from all walks of life. I've also received training for domestic violence intervention and treatment, with extensive experience providing services to men seeking help addressing violence within their intimate relationships. After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1987, I have enjoyed treating hundreds of clients with OCD. I also offer assistance with Hoarding Disorder and am featured as an expert consultant in nearly 33 episodes of the A&E series HOARDERS. I do not treat out-of-state clients, That is, all clients must live in Louisiana.
