My ideal client is someone who wants to actively pursue new paths to find their true, healthy self. Ideally, ready to do the work. I am here to challenge cognitive distortions. I will be a partner in brainstorming issues and goals. Hard work from the client and support from an intuitive counselor will clear the path to the answers within.

For more than ten years, I've worked with teenagers (15+) and adults of all ages to address a multitude of concerns: self-esteem, life changes, grief, anxiety, interpersonal problems, chronic illness, loved ones struggling with addiction, depression, and issues specific to LGBTQ+ folks. I also strive to consider the importance of race, disability, body size, gender identity, sexuality, and many more intersecting, marginalized identities within sessions. I'm committed to counseling that is anti-racist, is queer friendly, and rejects diet culture.

Healing from our suffering—not just coping with it, but transforming it into growth—often requires a journey through it. It’s been said that “feelings buried alive never die.” Fear, sadness, rejection—all want acknowledgment so that we will not stay stuck in past pain. Once we bring our experience into the light, our truth can be validated. "My feelings are real." This is an important step in reaching a place of acceptance. Once the fog or confusion lifts, clarity follows and with it the momentum and freedom to finally release, let go, and move forward.

Life can be stressful! When relationships struggle, work feels exhausting, and home life is chaotic, it's easy to break down, give up, or bury how you feel. Questioning your decisions, who you are, what you’re doing with your life can be paralyzing. Our emotions can be so intense and overwhelming that it's like walking on eggshells around our partner, family and friends, coworkers. These experiences can make daily life stressful and lead to more long-term problems if people avoid working through them.

Sleep troubles, Trauma, Chronic Pain, Anxiety or Depression negatively impacting your life? I believe clients are the expert of themselves. I have additional tools through training and experience to be part of a team approach with a client in the process of recovering from Insomnia, traumatic event(s) and other issues, in a relatively short amount of time when compared to typical therapies. Evidence-Based Therapy may be of interest to you because the rigorously researched therapy has shown to have consistent outcomes, tends to be less sessions than standard supportive therapy, which can be more cost-effective since less visits.

I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker that has been in the mental health field since 2015. I am currently accepting new patients. I have always had a passion for helping others achieve their goals and reach their full potential. My ideal client is someone who acknowledges a problem exists, even if they don’t quite know what it is. The source of that issue can be discovered and processed through therapy, leaving the client with effective tools and skills to cope with and manage their emotions.

I have already counseled my ideal client. I worked with a client who came to me in her most significant time of need. She was ready to put in work and wanted to develop. She was diagnosed with Bipolar I and had several suicide attempts. She could externalize her mania and use fitness and wellness to push through her episodes. She is happy and healthy and uses her experiences to help others. My services involve psychotherapy using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI), with a trauma-informed framework.

I specialize in helping those with anxiety, depression, & relationship issues. Whether it is a relational, work, school, or family issue, talking about it with someone often aids in clarity and change. I want to help those individuals/families who are struggling to make sense of the chaos, look for understanding insight, and make those changes that will help them to start feeling more hopeful and excited about life again.

Life's path is rarely a straight one; we all have to overcome setbacks and difficulties that can make us feel out of balance. Getting help is not always easy, especially if you're feeling overwhelmed or upset. You may have even attempted contacting other therapists, but their hectic schedules have made it challenging for them to get back to you right away. Don't be discouraged. I am available to help. My intention is to create an environment where you feel valued and heard. Let's work together to get your life back on track.

I began my career as a registered nurse. After working in several areas of medical care, I settled into thirteen years as a psychiatric nurse attending to the care of children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. During this time, I returned to graduate school to complete my master of social work degree. Since finishing, I have practiced as a therapist, in a community clinic, and in a private clinic. Two years ago, I opened my own independent practice and continue with that today. My approach to counseling adults is based in cognitive-behavioral theory, better known as "talk therapy."

Mental health needs affect everyone differently and yet it can impact how one sees the world, themselves, and others. Furthermore, various diversity factors such as race, gender, religion, also influence the way one see's him/herself and the way that the world sees and treats a person. In my work with children, adults, couples, and families which spans for more than 15 years, I focus on seeing and understanding the whole person in order to assist clients on their journey to healing and acceptance.

The path of life is rarely straight, and we all face ups and downs that can make us feel lost or out of balance. Seeking support when you're struggling requires courage, especially when feeling weighed down or distressed. I understand you’ve attempted contacting other therapists, and that their full caseloads have made timely responses challenging. I empathize with how disheartening that must feel when you're needing help urgently. Rest assured, I am ready and available to delve into your inner world without judgement or hesitation. I am here to listen wholeheartedly and guide you towards healing and growth.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in West Lafayette?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
