Our typical clients are children and adolescents who are struggling with a specific change, transition, trauma incident, loss, or other stressor that is causing behavioral and emotional concerns, like defiance, anxiety, depression, self-harm, which interferes with school, home-life, and other relationships. Clients have goals to decrease behavioral concerns at home and school, improve emotions, coping skills, communication skills, and school performance. A lot of parents want their children to listen, respect, and connect and communicate with them. We also work with individual adults, families and couples.

I have been working with parents and children for 20 years and I specialize in finding the underlying causes of behavior in order to help children develop an identity as competent and confident young people. When working with and supporting parents, we will develop plans together to help build the skills necessary to modify behavioral outcomes in home and school settings. I work from a solutions-focused perspective that can hopefully generate some quick action steps in addition to the underlying work on causes, building self-esteem, and developing identity.

I obtained my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy at Argosy University. I specialize in youth and family therapy, in Lakewood, CO. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. I hold certificates in systemic Art, Play, and Sandplay therapy. I earned my Bachelor's in Human Services with an emphasis in Rehabilitative Counseling and minors in Art and Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado. I have a passion for providing an outlet for individuals to have a safe place to grow and reach their full potential.

I am currently accepting clients 3-10 years old and 20-65 years old! I creatively support gender and racially diverse clients, including students, mamas, papas, children, and adults making life transitions. I love working in nature with art, stories, and metaphors. As a seasoned board licensed psychotherapist, I have maintained a private practice primarily in Colorado for twenty-five years. The Creative Arts Therapy Center of Denver (CATCOD) is a safe, inclusive and accepting space for people of all ages where we promote healing and support through psychotherapy. I am an art and talk therapist who specializes in supporting women who are navigating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), disability, chronic illness, as well as highly empathetic Autistic women. Women who are highly sensitive, experiencing executive functioning challenges, and sensory processing issues work well with my style.

Jen is well-versed in treating depression, anxiety, complex trauma and co-occurring mental health diagnoses in children and adults. Hi name is Justien, she/her/hers, and I am the owner of Soothing Sands Therapy, LLC. I specialize in working with children, adolescents and young adults. I am fascinated with how the brain works finding ways to make the growth process go as smoothly as possible. It is because of my interest in brain development that I have found alternative ways to do therapy other than talking. When we think about adolescent and adolescent years, we just want to survive it but my passion is to help others not only get through it, but thrive through those years. I am also available to provide supervision to individuals in candidacy.

For adults, I provide a combination of coaching and art therapy, each session is 1-2 hrs.
