Hi, I’m Kari, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Registered Dietitian. I support individuals experiencing anxiety and depression, struggling with an eating disorder, caught in addiction, or navigating a life transition. I have specialized training in the treatment of eating disorders and common co-occurring disorders such as OCD, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, and substance use. I also support people who want to improve their lives by setting healthier boundaries, building confidence, and living more aligned to their values.

I work with children, teenagers, and adults, and I am especially passionate about working with LGBTQ, Disabled, and Neurodivergent individuals of all ages. I am here to create an empathetic and supportive space to assist clients in exploring a range of mental health concerns effectively, including depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, ADHD, Autism, self-harm, suicidal ideation, trauma and PTSD.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in neuropsychological evaluation, cognitive rehabilitation, and psychotherapy. I obtained my PhD Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University and completed my fellowship at UCLA, pre-doctoral internship at Vanderbilt University, and Bachelor's degree from USC. I also received clinical training at the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare System, UCLA's Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, and the Loma Linda University Behavioral Health Institute.

I integrate foundational principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with psychotherapy for individuals and families. I have extensive experience as a behavior interventionist working to reduce challenging behaviors related to ADD/ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and other special needs.

I specialize in trauma, addiction, anxiety, and anger management. I also treat depression, bipolar, ADHD, stress, and many other concerns. Taking a multi-faceted approach, I use humor, candor, compassion, and connection to shift perspectives and ease anxieties, allowing you to make healthier decisions, gain more control over the direction of your life, and feel more empowered. I've spent the past decade helping people navigate the pitfalls and challenges of sobriety, along with mental health struggles, and I would love to help you make progress on your journey.

I have 15 years of experience in educational and community settings. I have worked extensively with adults and families presenting with a wide variety of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and substance use. I am a strong advocate of all aspects of positive psychology, including mindfulness and health psychology, and believe that life enrichment is an integral part of the therapeutic process.

I provide safe, accepting, and culturally sensitive services to clients experiencing emotional stress. I work in the areas of anxiety, depression, behavioral issues (such as ADHD or defiant and oppositional behaviors), and culture-related stress (such as immigration issues or struggles regarding identity).

My couples' therapy clients often love each other immensely, but struggle with healthy communication, trust, and/or intimacy issues.

As a parent, you may be feeling overwhelmed and hopeless on how to best help your struggling child in school. You may wonder if you are doing everything that you can for your child. Understanding your child’s behavior and how it is impacting their learning in the classroom can be frustrating and complicated for you to navigate on your own. You believe that if you knew “WHY” your child was behaving in such a manner then they would be able to be happy and successful in school and, in turn, would be able to learn.

My focus in working alongside you is to help you understand who you are today and, more importantly, who you would like to become. I know how difficult it can be to connect and invite someone new into your life, but my goal is to provide you with a sanctuary from the pain and help you uncover the answers you have been searching for. Often, life can leave you feeling alone, afraid, or at a loss with how to move on. Maybe you feel like if people really knew you, you would be left out in the cold. Perhaps you’re being shamed for who you are and what you need already. While you might struggle to believe it right now, things can change.

For over 30 years, I've specialized in therapy with individuals, couples, groups, & for 20 years, I was an Adjunct Professor, at Chapman University, teaching: Intro to Psychology, Interpersonal Attraction & Romantic Love, Human Sexuality, Sexual Disorders & Treatment, Chemical Dependency Treatment, & other grad/undergrad psychology classes. My academic research interests: romantic love--the differences between intense/compelling and secure/comfortable love experiences & the use of videotaped therapy in chemical dependency treatment. I use a holistic/transpersonal approach. I'm a Voice Dialogue teacher/trainer/facilitator,Certified in EMDR & Certified Gottman Couple's Therapist, Level I & II Teacher, & ASL Workshop Leader.

I believe that a successful therapeutic relationship comes from collaboration, mutual respect, and authenticity. I aim to provide a supportive, collaborative, and affirming space to all people and relationships. I use a strengths-based, Integrative, trauma informed and inclusive approach to healing. I value supportive, and client-centered relationships as a necessary foundation for the therapeutic process. I work with BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples. Specifically, the people that enjoy working with me are people who struggle with anxiety, shame, trauma, and are often their own worst critics. The people I work with often have difficulty knowing how to connect and explore their inner emotional experience (aka feeling the feelings). Because of that, they are needing of self-compassion, curiosity, and guidance.

We don't do journaling out loud. Some forms of therapy can be the equivalent to what we call "journaling out loud" where each session is comprised of whatever you feel like sharing about from your week or your past. While this type of process is important to the counseling process and does occur in some amount each week, this isn't the work of therapy that facilitates healing. In our view, you will feel temporary relief from doing this in the same way that you do when journaling or talking to a friend. In counseling jargon we call this "catharsis."
