Like you, I am human. I’ve had many sweet moments in my life. But I’ve also had some experiences that were pretty brutal. Plus, some stretches in-between when I was simply adrift, dealing with tough decisions, feeling alone, a bit lost, trying to manage the tectonic shifts of being mortal. I was always grateful for family and friends. But sometimes they weren’t enough. When I finally gathered the courage to see a therapist for the first time, it was a remarkable experience for me, completely different from talking with my buddies! I felt like the counselor understood me in a way I didn't even understand myself.

Even the best mountain climbers need help to get to the top sometimes. The mountains of life look different for everyone--grief, trauma, anxiety, feeling lost--but one thing remains the same: they feel impossible. Imagine the bitter climb to the peak, full of scrapes and bruises, feeling like the steep twisting trail will never end. Picture yourself standing at the summit, filling your lungs with the sweet air of victory. See the treacherous trail behind you, and think to yourself “I did it!” No matter your mountain, you can feel that fresh breath filling your soul. You are a conqueror, and I’m honored to climb with you.

Everyone is different and that's okay. We all struggle and that's okay. We all deal with difficult and hard times and sometimes we just need a little support. During our journey together we will travel those difficult areas in life while discovering those personal strengths you already possess. My hope is that through a strong relationship built on trust, understanding, and even a little humor we will find a level of healthy freedom. As we work together you may discover that your journey would best be traveled with someone else, so it is important you find someone who is a good fit for you.

I enjoy working with people who are perplexed by disruptive habits and patterns in their lives, confused by disruptive emotions and behaviors. This can include but is not limited to depression, anger, anxiety, substance abuse, and relational issues. If you long for change and at the same time feel stuck, then you will be a good candidate for my approach to therapy. My approach will help facilitate a compassionate understanding of yourself and illumine a path toward greater freedom.

It takes courage to start looking for a counselor. By taking this first step, you are moving toward change. Good for you! At times, our life adventure can become difficult and we may feel stuck. I believe there is a plan for each one of us, and sometimes we just need help to get "unstuck". I am here to help you sort through your challenges and develop coping and communication skills to get you back on your path.

My passion is working alongside trauma survivors of all ages as they heal, understand previously learned patterns, and rewrite new ones. It's important to me that you feel seen and in control on your healing journey. I do this through a collaborative approach to exploring the feelings in your body as well as the thoughts in your mind.

Connecting with a therapist is no easy task these days. Finding a person who will listen without judgement, honor your current struggles, and sit with you as you sort through your next steps is an important part of connection. Whether you appreciate some humor, prefer to snuggle my therapy dog, or participate in hands on art, music, sand, or play therapy interventions, I have many ways to create connection with my clients. I also use creative interventions for clinical individual or group supervisions for graduate level students or LPCCs!

Many will enter therapy thinking, “What have I been doing wrong to get here?” I meet clients and think, “What have you been doing right to make it this far?” Yes, I think a bit backwards, but it’s what allows me to find innovative ways to help clients move forward using their strengths. Individuals, couples, and families who have previously felt stuck in complex issues with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss, adoption, parenting, and relationships report finding relief through embracing their strengths and being reassured that their experience is valid. This helps tap into their innate ability to heal and renew balance.

I have 20 years of clinical experience working with couples, families, teens, school age children and adults. I believe my work has greatly contributed to enhancing the lives of my clients. I utilize a strength-based approach, which helps families to see beyond the problem and see opportunities for change. I strongly believe in building on family strengths to improve relationships and family functioning. I provide consultation and parent education designed to empower, educate and support parents in developing effective parenting strategies.

Starting your personal counseling journey is never a decision of weakness, but instead it's one of great strength and bravery. You are deciding to face the issues, change the patterns, and break the unhealthy cycles in your life and in your family. That is an incredibly brave thing to do, but I do understand that it's scary to get started. My hope and desire is that you feel supported and empowered throughout this process. I am a Christian and will incorporate faith-based elements when it's welcomed, but that is completely up to you.

Anxiety, depression and self critical thoughts can take the joy from our lives and leave us feeling hopeless and alone. Our relationship with food may be unhealthy and we may feel suicidal or compelled to self harm. We want to move through the world with confidence while living a life of purpose but are overwhelmed and feel stuck. Goals go unmet, and our world becomes smaller as we resist challenges in our social life, school and career, out of fear and discomfort. We want to have more friends, do well in school and have a satisfying job or family life. We want to be happy and fulfilled.

Making the initial phone call to seek counseling can be one of the most difficult things to do. I have worked with many clients who initially avoid counseling because of fear, shame, or anxiety around sharing their experience. My hope is to be a safe place to process the ups and downs of life. If you are unsure, be encouraged that you have already taken the first courageous step by looking. By taking the next step, you will find that there is hope on the other side.

My number one priority is for my clients to feel comfortable. I take a laid-back approach that is fairly directive yet very empathic. Psychoeducation and self-esteem work are major parts of my practice as I utilize these tools to empower my clients. I also focus on coping skills and the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors (CBT-focused). I like to be transparent with clients and increase their comfortability by letting my own personality shine through.

My education and experience as a registered nurse and psychotherapist allows me to provide you with an integrated and holistic approach to whatever you are experiencing in your life. Our emotions and mental status are always intertwined with our physical health and need to be approached as a whole. I also believe that we are more than our mind/body selves. There are aspects to our lives that cannot be explained by traditional studies, and these need to be acknowledged, too.

I am an intern working towards a dual degree in mental health counseling (MHC) and school counseling. I attend Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
