You smile and nod in agreeance, but behind closed doors, you know the truth: tension, fighting, lack of intimacy, exhaustion with one another, and constant miscommunication. You feel like you are constantly walking on eggshells, never knowing what will lead to the next fight or night in complete silence. Many of us experience times of uncertainty. The challenges we confront may seem overwhelming, but we don't have to face them alone. There is very little that happens to us in life from which we cannot recover and rebuild. Therapy is one way to do so. Therapy involves a special conversation from which new possibilities emerge. Our sufferings initially may seem like unwelcomed guests but also invite us to the doorstep of love and healing. I am integrative and depth-oriented. Integrative therapy is a progressive form of therapy that combines different therapeutic tools and approaches to fit the needs of the individual client.

She has been practicing psychotherapy since 2004. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Social Work Degrees with high honors from the University of Southern California. Sandra is a licensed clinical social worker in the states of California and Colorado. Her commitment to the field extends to education, as she has served as an adjunct professor at Colorado State University, School of Social Work, Master of Social Work Program.

I have been a therapist since 1996, I founded Shining Through Counseling because I think everyone has a story to tell and needs support on their journey to wellness. Everyone's path looks different, and that is what makes us unique. Walking that path can be scary and hard. I am here to support and you and help you to heal, meet your goals and let your true self shine through. I do this by building a trusting relationship, and working together to address current and past issues or trauma, processing through them, building and strengthening coping skills and supports. I work with individual clients, children, couples, and families.

Sometimes life can feel like an uphill battle. No matter how hard you strive for the life you want, it continues to feel out of reach. I help adults experiencing difficult thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to overcome struggles that get in the way of the life they want to live. My clients struggle like you do. Despite being strong, resilient, and proud of what they’ve overcome, life is hard. Difficult and traumatic life experiences shape the way we understand ourselves, others, and the world. The resulting beliefs and survival strategies make sense and help us survive but later become obstacles to fully living our lives.

As a Registered Play Therapist who specializes in working with children 10 and under, I believe and know that children cannot process the same way that we adults do, which is why talk therapy won't work well for them. For children, play is their language and the toys are their words (Landreth). I am trained to communicate and use their play to reach their goals ( little do the kids realize what important work they are doing!) My job is to help them realize their best selves while helping you as their parent and caregivers understand and parent them in ways that can speak not only to their strengths but yours as well.
