Life is difficult. You can be coasting along, only to wake up and find you just don’t have the same kind of joy and excitement that you used to. Activities and being with people you used to enjoy now just feel dull and lifeless or fill you with anxiety and, no matter what you do, nothing changes. You have difficulty falling asleep and, when you finally do, you wake up feeling exhausted and unrested. Your relationships may often be defined by constant fighting, insecurity, or lack of connection and excitement. Issues of sexual integrity fill you with shame, and, no matter what you do, you continue to struggle.

The clients I serve are often in a moment of transition and are unsure what the path forward looks like. They are seeking clarity, as well as relief from their symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and grief. Clients I enjoy working with understand that therapy extends beyond our scheduled time, and may include setting goals and practicing skills that grow reflection, insight and behavior change. I have seen that therapy and coaching can lead to greater self-understanding and a deeper, more dynamic framework for managing modern life and changing how we relate with ourselves and others.

I am honored to help my clients see through the messiness of life and grieve what should have been. Clients often come to me after losing a loved one, struggling with body image or disordered eating, or trying to cope with a traumatic event. I also am a part of a foundation of therapists that work with reality tv stars before, during, and after they are cast on unscripted reality tv shows.

I enjoy helping people become self-aware, accepting, heal and improve their quality of life and relationships. I use a variety of approaches, including client centered, strengthbased, focused on goals set with client. I enjoy helping people grow, and become self and spiritually aware. I work with children, (6 -19), and adults dealing with PTSD, trauma, anxiety, attachments issues, relationships, addictions, and mortality. I enjoy working with individuals, partners, couples and families. I believe in the power of focused healing, increased awareness, acceptence, hope and love.

My general approach with working with clients for over 20 years is highly individualized, relational and strengthen based. I believe most clients simply need an environment to communicate, process feelings and gain insight in order to create a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I offer individual therapy for adolescents, adults and family therapy. My passion has always been treating eating disorders and the underlying causes such as depression and anxiety. Another clinical passion and area of focus has been assisting women and mothers with identity development and navigating life transitions.

My name is Kathy Bleitner. I earned my Master of Education in Counseling Degree from the University of Missouri St. Louis and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri. I have experience working with children and families. I use play therapy with young clients, and incorporate cognitive behavior and person centered therapy with adolescents, teens and adults. I believe that with support, patience, and caring, most problems can be overcome. My clinical experience includes: Therapy for depression and anxiety, stress reduction, parenting challenges, autism, ADD and ADHD, learning issues and effective communication skills.

My clients come from many walks of life and may be going through several challenges in this thing we call life. My goal is to make therapy a safe space for my clients to process their presenting problems and not feel judged. Only evidence-based therapy approaches will be used to help my clients reach their therapy goals including Person Centered, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Trauma Informed Care. I understand how challenging being an adolescent can be. I have worked with adolescents for over 25 years. I can offer a private, confidential and safe environment to be able to work through those challenges.
