Hi - Welcome to ONLINE counseling. I have a unique practice that supports people from all over Montana --- after 15 years of seeing couples and individuals in person in my Bozeman office, I'm now working exclusively with individuals online. I have had the honor of helping hundreds of Montanans conquer their depression or anxiety, regain their confidence, improve their communication skills, renew their relationship by working on themselves ... and to get back to being the person they want to be. I provide individuals struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, and self-esteem a safe place to slow down, get to know, and learn how to care for your deepest self. I can help you learn to relate to difficult emotions and aspects of yourself in ways that support your growth toward the most relaxed, self-accepting, joyful you. I am gender affirming and sex and body positive.

I am trained as a grief counselor and also in EMDR. I also work with couples as an EFT therapist and have a strong belief that relationship is at the center of our well-being; whether it's our relationship with others or with ourselves and am versed in Internal Family Systems Therapy. I also belong to team of practitioners who meet weekly to consider the needs of our clients. We offer an excellent and holistic approach for your care.

Hello! My name is Heidi McKinley and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and counselor educator and supervisor. I am passionate about counseling and truly enjoy working with clients who desire change in their lives but may feel scared, ambivalent, stuck or confused. Every person, couple, and family has a unique story with varied experiences and struggles. I value human connection and relationship and believe there so much power in each that can help facilitate that desired change.

She works with Parents, Couples, Divorced and/or Blended Families, and Single Parents to support them in supporting their child of any age (from babies to young adults) through episodes of anxiety, stress, sadness, or trauma.

My experience is working with late teens, young adults, adults, and couples who are experiencing emotional distress from past and/or current struggles. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver. Prior to my work in outpatient counseling, I worked with children and adolescents to enhance their emotional well-being and improve their academic performance. I have worked with diverse client populations in a variety of settings including community based, residential care, crisis intervention, domestic violence shelters, and school systems. I am a trauma-engaged, strengths-based clinician with 8+ years of experience working with adjustment issues across the lifespan, emotional distress, problematic relationship

What would it be like to be able to say no and not have it come with a side of guilt? A life where you only say yes to the tasks, responsibilities, and people that matter most to you? I’ve been there and I can help. I work to help people who struggle to set healthy boundaries with people in their lives, or often need to feel angry or frustrated before they are able to say “no”. This process of learning often feels difficult and one of my passions is helping people identify what is keeping them stuck in the old patterns, discover what they value and who they want to be, then commit to achieving a life that feels worth living.

I enjoy working with those who want to better understand their own power. It is potent work to examine what patterns are holding you back from your full expression.

I am passionate about supporting my clients as they heal from traumas and attachment disruptions. Our work together focuses on developing inner resources which help to regulate emotions, increase acceptance for self and foster positive relationships with others. I aim to create a supportive and safe space for my clients to explore their "best self.” We work together to uncover no only what they are doing that serves them, but also what is holding them back from reaching their “best self” potential. I honor the courage it takes to seek help, and to be vulnerable in therapy. I value the power of the therapeutic relationship.

My aim is to work with the Latinx community in Montana, because I believe in the importance of receiving services in our own language. I help people who are living domestic issues, anxiety, stress, depression, grief, self-worth, relationship issues, etc. Depending on the necessities of the client, I incorporate modalities of narrative therapy, art therapy, solution-focused therapy, attachment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

Life is hard and the list of reasons why can sometimes seem almost endless. You might be struggling with anxiety or depression. Or it could be that you're trying to explore your identity and learn more about who you are and how you want to be in the world. Sometimes, it might be that life is changing and it's hard to keep up.

I am interested in learning about each individual I see because my personal aim is to aid clients in reaching their full potential. I believe this can be achieved with a mutual and holistic understanding of each client, specifically within one's social world and through the lens of one's past. For me, counseling is a collaborative process, and I have respect for each individual's autonomy throughout the process. To find meaning, even in the middle of suffering, to heal past or current events, and to develop coping skills can all lead to a deeper understanding of oneself, which is a never ending process.

My treatment focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. This is achieved by providing a neutral, safe space, listening to their stories, and customizing a treatment plan. I promise my clients I will be there every step of their journey. The goal is to help them grow from their struggles, heal from their pain, and move forward in their lives after looking inward, unpacking emotions and experiences, and ultimately seeing and understanding this time of their lives through a clearer lens.
