Rachael has been interested in mental health since she can remember. Growing up, this manifested itself into her being a nosy kiddo :). However, as she aged she turned that "nosiness" into a passion, an education, and a career. Rachael is excited about the relief and clarity offered in working through a therapeutic process. Being a Christian, Rachael is also sure that God cares deeply about the wholeness of His people.

I have recently accepted the position as clinical director for GRCS. In this capacity, I will be available as a consultant for other clinicians here, while also setting a clinical tone for the practice. On an individual basis, I see a wide variety of clients based on my experience in substance use treatment, outpatient therapy, corrections treatment, and trauma training. I have worked also with the severe and persistent mental health population. My stance is, “Tell me what you think the issue is, and we’ll find a way to address it.”

Life can be like a roller coaster with many highs and lows. Our past experiences will impact our perspective throughout life, often causing us to shift the way we see things or behave. Past experiences may cause you to constantly worry about your future or the future of your loved ones. Past experiences may make you feel down or put you in a dark place that feels impossible to come out of. Your past may make you feel like you are not good enough or worthy to be loved. Sometimes, you may even feel that you don’t deserve the life that you want.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have over five years of experience diagnosing and treating various mental health conditions. My areas of focus include depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and working through traumatic experiences. I strive to provide a calm, empathetic, open, non-judgmental, honest, respectful, and most importantly, genuine therapeutic environment with an emphasis on rapport building and maintaining a strong client/therapist relationship. I believe meeting the needs of each client individually is imperative in determining the best therapeutic approach for success. Often times these issues are masked by deep rooted trauma, grief and abuse. Individuals need encouragement, support, feeling that they are heard and validation while on their journey to healing.

I practice from an insight oriented, relational, and multicultural approach tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with. My priority as a therapist is to create a warm, collaborative, non-judgmental space where you can work through your concerns and make the changes in your life you desire. People seek therapy for a number of reasons, perhaps to alleviate symptoms or distress, improve self-esteem, or address relationship issues. In my experience, symptoms often “mark the spot” of a deeper theme you may be grappling with and I aim to assist you uncover what the root of your concerns may be.

I work with you in providing not only support but also tools and psycho-education. I strive to provide a safe and inclusive space for college-aged clients and up. I work best with those who seek guidance and skills that will help them overcome trauma, current life stressors, and social-emotional health. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and work on empowering clients to overcome present barriers.

As a licensed clinical therapist and school social worker, my goal, focus and passion is to help every person I work with meet their full potential by helping them with healing and understanding “The Process”. Let’s be honest. Life gets real sometimes. Things happen and we can wind up feeling stuck, lost, or hopeless. To top it all off, we often feel pressured to put on a brave face and weather the storm. It’s for these reasons that I founded Sunshine Counseling. You deserve a space where you can be yourself, where you don’t have to hide, and where you can safely process life. Truth be told, I named my therapy practice after a mug my friend gave me which sarcastically declares, "I am a ray of freaking sunshine!" This cheeky little mug actually encapsulates my world view. It is not all sunshine and rainbows. And that's ok.
