It's tough to be a kid or teen right now and it's tough to parent a kid or teen. The more motivated a young person and their family are to improve, the more successful we are in therapy. It will go best when everyone is (1) honest enough to really get to know themselves, (2) empathetic enough to care about the effects their choices and actions have on others, and (3) brave enough to do things differently so they can feel better, have healthier relationships, and enjoy more successes.

I have always believed in a holistic life / treatment model. I have thirty five years of experience in diverse therapeutic environments and with a large variety of people and issues. I often tell clients the reason I come to work is because I believe that I and you can change. My goal is to provide a safe space where you can become the person you are meant to be. I am also a licensed massage therapist , reiki master , and craniosacral therapist .

Many of my clients have struggled with various forms of anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions and past trauma. Many of my clients have been women of color navigating challenges with family, work, grief, parenting and relationships, while attempting to cope with the stressors that come with these roles. Often, these clients are attempting to be the best version of themselves, and want assistance in identifying and strengthening ways to thrive, rather than merely survive.

Different people need different things at different times in their lives. For the most part, my style is person-centered, which feels more like two friends talking. We take the time to get to know one another, your unique interests and what makes you tick. We utilize this information to personally tailor our time together.

It's never easy asking for help, and choosing someone to help with issues as difficult as anxiety, depression, past trauma, or current relationship issues can be a stressful process in and of itself. Life is often difficult and I want to assist people in finding a greater understanding and practical solutions in their lives that ultimately lead to greater happiness.

People seek me out because they find their current situation intolerable - they are sick and tired of experiencing shame, intense anger, depression and anxiety. Perhaps they want to work on their addiction - the thing they use to numb the painful experiences. Their relationships are suffering as a result of their behaviors, being closed off, or "too much" for others. Many struggle with feelings of inadequacy, perfectionism and a deep sense of futility, which prevents them from taking charge of their lives and confidently pursuing their heart's desire.

I believe in a person-centered approach when working with clients. In sessions I like to explore client’s strengths and weaknesses to facilitate growth in each area. I consider myself to be a very psychoeducational therapist, meaning my clients can expect to learn both inside and outside of sessions with supplemental resources or homework materials. I also believe in meeting clients where they are—no matter where you are in your journey or stage of change, human growth and development is lifelong. I offer psychotherapy, as well as, psychological evaluations: ADHD, developmental delays, behavior problems, IQ, advanced placement, disability consideration, emotional support animals, etc. I provide therapy for a variety of emotional/behavioral issues for all ages. I have a special interest in toddlers/preschoolers/children with developmental/behavioral/emotional problems and women with depression/anxiety. I enjoy helping parents learn how to best help their children to become happy and successful. I do parent coordination as well. I have a farm office, so is a much less formal atmosphere. Hi, my name is Kara Hardesty and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have been a therapist for 8 years since I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Masters in Social Work degree. My therapy services include Evidenced Based Treatments including: Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivation Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My approach to therapy is solution focused and the importance of living in the present and in the moment and focusing on the future.

I am experienced in techniques to help clients deal with anxiety such as thought stopping, reframing and mindfulness. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients to change thier automatic negative thoughts to positive thoughts. I encourage clients to focus on self care and help them develop a menu of coping skills to utilize in order to get through difficult times.

We will work together to get through whatever it is that you may be dealing with - anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or anything else that could be disrupting your quality of life. Moreover, as a brainspotting practitioner, I utilize this trauma specific treatment by effectively helping to identify points in an individual's visual field to assist in retrieving unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain.
