Welcome! My name is Margarita yet most clients call me Maggie! I have one main vision for all of my clients, to help you construct your story. I aim at helping clients increase awareness into their current situation while guiding them through a cognitive exploration that brings about self understanding and self-actualization. If you feel shattered or even "broken", it is my mission to help you feel whole again. I also focus on empowering and educating clients on how to become self-reliant and learn to control defeating thought processes that often are preventing them from moving forward in life. I have experience working in private practice, public health and community based organizations providing psychotherapy to adolescents 17+, adults, and seniors in an individual setting. I have been a practicing psychotherapist for 45+ years. I have worked with individuals, families and couples in a variety of settings including a family service agency, multiple drug treatment centers and a group and individual private practice. I have also trained therapists for licensure and have been an associate professor at two schools of social work.

I take you from right where you are at and move you forward. No matter how difficult or complicated your situation talk therapy will only get you so far. I help you develop real changes in your thoughts and/or behaviors to get your life back on track and moving in a direction of your choosing. In addition to this movement, I help you balance and manage the emotional part that can hinder improving your life. Hello, thank you for your interest and for taking a few minutes to read my profile. Currently, parenting has become a challenging task for parents. We are all faced with so many changes seen in the way that societies have evolved. In my practice, I focus on supporting children and adolescents with learning disabilities, ADHD, academic concerns, emotional stress, anxiety, depression, and family relationship issues and challenges. Additionally, I counsel families on a wide range of clinical issues such as parenting, grief, loss, separation, divorce, and blended family issues.

I specialize in helping individuals going through life transitions. I have extensive experience in addressing issues including anxiety, depression, grief, substance use, adult ADHD, and trauma. I have special interest assisting those managing chronic illness, supporting military members/first responders and their families, and those navigating life transitions such as life after a loss or adapting to college. It is a new year and you want things to be different, you just don’t know how to get there. You realize that 2023 wasn’t that great and you don’t want to repeat the same mistakes in 2024. You have made resolutions in the past, and they stick around for a while, but they don’t necessarily last. You don’t know why and you don’t know how to make things different. All you know is that you want this new year to be about creating the new you. A new you that is happy, healthy and confident. A new you that doesn’t allow the negativity to get in your way, because you self-esteem and confidence are at an all time high!

While people tend to not give themselves as much credit for how they manage life stressors, it is important to recognize that support is helpful in effectively overcoming challenges. Therapy serves as a tool to address these issues without feeling alone and judged. Learning ways to cope and process whatever life throws our way can lead to a reduction in distress and increased feelings of empowerment, setting us up for improvements in mood and relationship quality.

Relationships are hard. Whether it is with our partner, parents, children, or friends, it can be challenging. You bring your own "stuff" into your relationships and many times you don't realize it or know why. Why do I take my anger out on my family? Why can't I trust my partner? Why am I so anxious? I sincerely care about helping my clients gain clarity and insight while progressing towards developing the skills necessary to independently problem solve in the future. I do feel that we sometimes need to look backwards and work through past issues in order to lay a better foundation for the present. I will always seek to speak the truth with grace, even though it may be difficult to hear, in order to ensure that my clients have the information they need to make the best decisions for their situation.
