My areas of clinical expertise include anxiety and depression, shame, trauma and sexual abuse, addictions and compulsions and relationship issues. Many of the individuals who come to see me feel "stuck," unable to achieve their goals, form deep relationships or experience their lives as meaningful. We work together collaboratively, exploring thoughts, feelings, memories, dreams and desires to locate solutions. The couples that I see are struggling with communication; I teach them a new way of listening, allowing them to get to the core of their conflicts.

We are a not for profit community resource dedicated to providing low-cost psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children. Our group of licensed clinical social workers, psychoanalysts and psychologists are postgraduate therapists. In therapy, we address a wide range of challenges, such as anxiety, depression, difficulty in relationships, sexual dysfunction, life crisis, problems of self esteem, physical or sexual abuse, stress related to work setbacks, the emotional problems of adult children of alcoholics, chronic feelings of emptiness, loneliness and eating disorders.

My name is Sherie L. Seff and I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in Trauma, Weight Loss Surgery, Eating Disorders and Sexual Abuse. I am trained in AEDP, Core Self Reclamation Therapy/Fierce Love with a psychodynamic/relational background which I believe paves the way for long term personal growth, success and healing. I am a licensed clinical psychologist (10 years +) and my practice focuses on conducting empirically-informed forensic evaluations and trainings in threat assessment and all forms of interpersonal exploitation and violence victimization. I use an integrative approach drawing from best practices in current assessment research and utilizing trauma-informed clinical interviewing. My areas of expertise include sexual harassment and workplace violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, domestic homicides, and sex and labor trafficking. Issues I have evaluated include trauma and PTSD, violence risk, coercive controlling tactics, dissociation and memory issues, sexual grooming, trauma bonding and traumatic attachments.

It takes strength and bravery to let others witness our suffering and I will honor that in our work together. I want to assist you in this journey by use of empathy, compassion, attunement and humor. I will help you to embrace your current state while also teaching you how to navigate, contain and process feelings. The focus of my work is to empower you to be the best version of yourself.

I have trained in a number of therapy modalities (interpersonal psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, coaching), and use an eclectic and flexible approach which takes into account the particular client and their goals. I am the co-director of the Artist Program at the William Alanson White Institute, where I also serve as director of referrals for their Sexual Abuse Service. Other areas of specialization are financial therapy and executive coaching and leadership development. I do consulting work with financial firms and planners, as well as executives and other professionals going through career transitions, or looking to improve their work performance.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a queer therapist, I believe that therapy is different for every individual. My passion for understanding people and relationships has always been driven by curiosity. I primarily work with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples and have experience working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse. As a career changer, my previous career in advertising and fashion informs my extensive experience working with clients in the performing arts and other creative fields.

I work well with couples who are experiencing difficulties with communication, trust, violence, infidelity, divorce, and trauma. I am trained in EMDR and Focusing-Oriented therapy. In my work with individual clients, often the focus of therapy is helping with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and sexual orientation and identity. I also have experience working with individuals and couples dealing with infertility and fertility treatments.

I am easy to talk to, caring, and non-judgmental. I am an experienced therapist, former Clinical Supervisor at Columbia University, and adjunct faculty at the City University of New York. I work with most issues, but specialize in relationships, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and adult female survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
