Coping with the aftermath of complex trauma can be challenging. It seems that once it is over the expectation is that we move on but the emotional abuse tends to linger. Parenting Teens after Trauma
There is an innate desire to protect our children and when they are exposed to traumatic experiences it can be challenging for us to help them manage it, especially if their overwhelming emotions are misplaced. Evidenced based therapy, specifically Mentalization Based Therapy, is used to provide coping skills to help improve your ability to be more reflective and less reactive. Cognitive behavioral therapy is another evidenced based psychotherapy that will be used to teach assertive communication skills, help set boundaries and expectations, and improve conflict resolution skills.
