My goal as a therapist is to help others become the best version of themselves. I work with and support my clients to achieve mental and emotional well-being while discovering themselves. Too often, we shy away from help because we are ashamed, afraid, or don't understand the process. I believe everyone can benefit from time in therapy and become the author of their own story.

I understand many life experiences can leave one unable to cope and rebound from their effects. I provide techniques to promote healing from life's traumatic events, in order for you to get back to enjoying life. I use trauma-informed techniques such as 'flash technique', 'progressive counting', and hypnotherapy to assist in identifying and processing trauma. These are valid and reliable techniques that provide faster processing and healing than most others.

I am passionate about working with couples whose relationships may be in crisis (broken trust; conflicted; disconnected) as well as stable marriages wanting deeper connection and relational intimacy. I help them see themselves and each other through a lens that includes the issues each person brought with them to the relationship, including ways their hearts and minds were impacted by relationships and situations experienced during their formative years. The therapeutic approach I use helps build understanding and empathy that constructively leads to changes in behavioral patterns and relationship dynamics. The goal - mutual satisfaction and freedom to love one another well.

My approach is also affirming of those who are LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, and those exploring identity, non-religious spirituality, and alternative lifestyles.
Healing isn’t about returning to who we were, but about allowing ourselves to grow into someone new. My practice is guided by the principle of Sankofa (“to go back and fetch it”) representing the courage to look back on our lives, to honor where we’ve been, and to carry the wisdom of those experiences forward into our growth. Every part of your story matters, including the pain. As a therapist, I will be your guide and a witness, holding space as you heal from the past and rediscover your strength, meaning, and voice.

My life has been shaped by profound loss and trauma, and I understand firsthand how deeply these experiences can affect the human heart and mind. I survived sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse in childhood, endured years of depression and suicidal thoughts, and grew up in a deeply dysfunctional environment. By the age of 22, I had already experienced nearly two dozen significant deaths, along with two serious automobile accidents and the trauma of being trapped in a burning building. Living with complex PTSD has been part of my journey, and it has also shaped my deep empathy for those who carry unseen wounds.

My ideal client is someone whose been carrying the weight of past hurt far too long. They feel on edge, disconnected, or overwhelmed by memories that show up uninvited. They’ve learned to cope the best they can, but they’re exhausted—from staying strong and holding it together for too long. What they is a safe, steady place where they can finally exhale. A place where their story is honored, their reactions make sense, and they don’t have to explain why certain moments feel so hard. They want gentle guidance, grounding, and someone who truly sees the pain beneath the surface. Their goals are to feel calmer and loosen trauma's grip.

The heart of 4Purpose Counseling is built on the foundation of the partnership we can have with God and His desire for healing and wholeness. Many people experience trauma and emotional wounds that affect their perceptions of things like identity, connection, and ultimately can affect negatively their personal relationships and working relationships. We realize the vital connection to learning more about our entire human experience, including our spiritual connection to God, is critical in experiencing more health physically and emotionally.

I enjoy helping those who are facing perinatal mental health challenges, birth trauma recovery, C-section recovery, anxiety, depression, faith/ spirituality, grief & loss, relationship & peer relational changes, as well as adjustment concerns.
I feel called to provide support to mommas during pregnancy and the postpartum period and am passionate about helping people heal from perinatal mental health challenges. In my practice, I utilize both my training as a certified Perinatal Mental Health therapist and my life experience as a mother to meet my clients right where they are and work collaboratively towards their goals. Becoming a parent, all paths and experiences towards it considered, is one of the most life altering experiences. We truly are never the same. One mother put it best, "I didn't lose myself when I became a mom, but I did meet a whole new me."

Since retiring from the military 10 years ago, I have discovered that there is a lot more going on in my inner life than I had realized. As I have learned to recognize and understand my own emotions, I have developed a growing passion for helping others do the same. I am particularly interested in working with other men who are unsure of how to recognize, think about, and talk about what is going on in their hearts and minds. If the only emotion you can recognize is anger, let's talk.

I am here to help people who are ready to take their lives back after abuse or trauma. People desiring to live authentically and unapologetically, but who are unsure of where to find the freedom and safety to start. The aftermath of trauma is often messy, but it can also be the grit that polishes the soul. Like a caterpillar builds a chrysalis, we build a safe space to evolve who we are at our core. By addressing issues at their roots, we can find ourselves taking those initial steps out of the painful chrysalis of trauma, new and beautifully revolutionized, ready for a completely new phase of life.

I make space for spirituality and metaphysical tools including intuition and complementary modalities such as astrology, tarot/oracle as well.
Has life shifted in ways you didn't expect? Are you feeling lost or uncertain? The roles you once held, the relationships that defined you, the version of yourself you thought you knew, they've changed, and no one warned you how disorienting that would feel. When your world is reorganized by grief, life transition, or trauma, it's not just your circumstances that shifts, it's your sense of self shifts too. You may find yourself asking: Who am I now? What do I actually believe? What do I even want? That confusion isn't weakness. It's what happens when identity and attachment are disrupted at their core, this is a liminal space.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
