My goal as a therapist is to help others become the best version of themselves. I work with and support my clients to achieve mental and emotional well-being while discovering themselves. Too often, we shy away from help because we are ashamed, afraid, or don't understand the process. I believe everyone can benefit from time in therapy and become the author of their own story.

Many people come to therapy wanting relief from anxiety, depression, stress, or relationship challenges... those goals matter. But, therapy can be about more than symptom reduction. Using a blend of CBT and ACT, I help clients better understand themselves, clarify what’s most important to them, and make choices that align with the life they want to live. Influenced by Irvin Yalom’s belief in the healing power of a genuine therapeutic relationship, I bring authenticity, transparency, and directness to therapy. Change can be uncomfortable, so finding a therapist who provides the right balance of support and challenge is important.

If you’re marginalized in any way, you’re familiar with feeling pushed to blend in or to live a life that just doesn’t fit. Right now, you might feel like you’re living on an island. But even islands are connected through the seabed, which means there’s no place too far to come back from. Together, we can rebuild those connecting threads to others and to the authentic self already within you.

I view my work as a therapist through a multicultural lens, and I customize my approach depending on the unique needs of every individual I work with. Many people have told me they’ve been frustrated by therapists in the past who sat quietly and provided very little feedback. In response, I’ve developed a forthright, solutions-oriented style of engaging with my clients that encourages them to set goals for themselves and empowers them to work toward them. I also have experience working with clients who prefer a softer, less structured approach, so I can customize the therapy experience to each person.

If you are having issues with self-esteem, I can help you feel good about yourself and feel deserving of the life you want to live.
My work in the behavioral and developmental health profession have been primarily working with families. I have worked with children age 2+ individually, building coping skills, social development, and emotional intelligence. While I enjoy working with kids, outcomes are typically significantly better when caregivers are involved actively in treatment. I help families and individuals identify patterns that are keeping them from the life they want, then we work together to change patterns and remove barriers.

I often address areas of self-criticism and self confidence that can be accompanied with both guilt and shame.
Despite our strengths we can feel stuck, unable to move forward with a life that aligns with our goals and values. We often continue using coping skills that were once helpful but now no longer help move us through the more challenging and unexpected issues in our lives. Together we identify these familiar yet unproductive styles of coping with compassion. I use techniques that approach difficult thoughts and feelings without fearing, fighting or running from them while being able to address them with acceptance.

Are you noticing mood and behavioral changes in yourself or your child? Feeling more argumentative, anxious, or sad? Hard to calm down once you feel offended by something, even if it's minor? It doesn't have to feel that way and you don't have to figure it all out on your own. Perhaps you or your child have experienced recent life changes, abuse, or trauma? None of these experiences are easy to navigate and I'm here to help.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
