I understand many life experiences can leave one unable to cope and rebound from their effects. I provide techniques to promote healing from life's traumatic events, in order for you to get back to enjoying life. I use trauma-informed techniques such as 'flash technique', 'progressive counting', and hypnotherapy to assist in identifying and processing trauma. These are valid and reliable techniques that provide faster processing and healing than most others.

My ideal patient is someone who’s ready to make meaningful changes but feels overwhelmed by life’s challenges, whether that’s addiction, trauma, anxiety, or relationship struggles. They want stability, understanding, and fundamental tools to rebuild their life and relationships. Many of my patients are seeking a safe, supportive space to explore the roots of their struggles and learn new ways to cope. Their ultimate goal is to heal, grow, and find balance, both for themselves and the people they love.

As a play therapist, I believe that play can be used to help families and children find solutions. Play is our first language. Play can build trust, regulate emotions, and help us express thoughts and feelings that might otherwise remain hidden. I believe that play therapy works best when parents/caregivers and families are actively involved in the treatment process. I believe in a holistic and systemic treatment in working with children and the adults in their lives.

I really love my job. Whether it's individual therapy for a kiddo or adult or collaborative parent consultation, I will meet you where you need me. I will create a safe, empathetic environment for you to explore what makes sense for you. I’ll ask questions or reflect thoughts you may not have considered… and I’ll use a touch of humor to help it feel easier. One of my strengths is leveraging my gently direct approach within CBT and other evidence based short term interventions (such as SPACE or ERP) leading to effective, shorter term therapeutic treatment.

It can feel intimidating to seek help when we're struggling. I believe the vulnerability it takes to reach out for support shows incredible strength and bravery. Seeking support through therapy is the greatest investment you can make for yourself.

I like DBT & mindfulness, but personalizing your care is important, so I try to stay flexible in your care.
I'm out of office 6/1 - 6/5. If you're navigating a season where everything feels like it's falling apart, a divorce, or wondering who you are outside of what you've lost, this is built for you. Honestly? You aren't meant to carry this alone. If you want therapy that's grounded, isn't stuffy or clinical, and you want peace in life with clarity, then Sequoia might be for you. Sequoia trees interlace roots to hold each other up, knowing they're stronger connected together. Therapy is similar. It’s about finding YOUR roots, what matters to you, and rediscovering your peace, joy. Having a guide along the path with you can help.

Whether you're managing anxiety, depression, stress, or life transitions; I'm glad that you're here. I believe you are the expert on your own life and view my role as helping you make sense of what’s coming up and support you in slowing down the process to make more intentional choices. We can't make our emotions go away but we can learn to understand them and grow our capacity to navigate them as they show up.

My ideal client is someone who may be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck—often because they’ve been navigating the world carrying burdens shaped by cultural, generational, or systemic challenges. They may be a teenager struggling to make sense of their identity in a complex social environment, an adult dealing with chronic anxiety or depression, or someone managing symptoms of trauma or long-term psychological distress. No matter how big you may feel your concern is, you are always worthy of grace and compassion.

You may be feeling stressed, anxious, or stuck in patterns that don’t feel like “you.” Maybe life transitions, perfectionism, or self-doubt are making it hard to move forward with confidence. What you want most is relief from the constant pressure, clarity about who you are, and the tools to create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
