I provide services for
adolescent
/adult individual therapy as well as marriage/couples therapy and premarital counseling.
Growing up, I always had a passion for being a helper. Various personal life experiences inspired me to help people to heal and have a safe place to land, especially while they were feeling tossed around by the storms of life. Helping people mend relationships, find healing in their trauma, and find hope in their circumstances is the “why” of my choice of the counseling profession and my reason for passion in my work. For each client who enters my office, I hope to be able to provide a warm and caring presence while giving clients help with carrying any burdens they are feeling and have a safe place to process struggles and trauma.

These years have allowed me to obtain a lot of tools that we can use together to help you live your best life! I specialize in miscarriage grief, postpartum depression, life transitions, depression, anxiety,
adolescent
issues, life planning, and women's issues.
We've all heard phrases like, "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" or "You have a lot to be thankful for!" Often times these phrases are more hurtful than helpful. They make you feel alone and unsure if what you're feeling is real. I love being able to help my clients realize that they're not alone, their feelings are valid, and that they do matter. When you make the steps to seek help. You are not weak, you are BRAVE!

If you are an
adolescent
and/or young adult woman who struggles with eating disorders/disordered eating, poor body image, or a poor relationship with your body and/or food, you have found the right place to receive supportive healing. As you may know, it is never about our food or our body, but something much bigger. It takes a safe and compassionate space for you to be vulnerable and share about your past experiences that have lead to your current situation, which is my goal as a therapist, to provide you that space. I view the therapeutic and client relationship as a partnership where we can work together to accomplish your goals.

I have enjoyed the private practice of outpatient mental health in Oklahoma and around the world with our military. In addition to a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Tulsa, I am a graduate of the Menninger's Institute Program for Community Practitioners of Marriage and Family Therapy. Working with couples who desire to save their marriage and with families struggling to succeed with
adolescent
challenges are some of my favorite areas of focus. My doctoral level research involved conducting a clinical trial investigating the effectiveness of the EMDR method.

Taking the first steps for counseling can seem overwhelming. Sometimes life can be bombarded with anxiety, stressors, depression, or life transitions. It could be marriage difficulties or communication or infidelity traumas that need to be addressed. Or perhaps feeling disconnected to yourself and others due to PTSD. Perhaps it is a
teenager
wanting to stop self-harming and learning better ways to regulate feelings. Trauma and attachment issues can show up in many ways. Working through difficulties can bring hope empowerment connectedness and a sense of freedom in personal social spiritual areas of one's life.

You don't have to live with depression or anxiety, a marriage that isn't working, a poor work/life balance, or a child or
teen
who is struggling.
I help people get unstuck. When the difference between where you want to be and where you are seems huge, I can help you move through the obstacles and achieve your goals. If you are stressed, depressed, or anxious because the relationships in your life aren't what you would like them to be then you are the kind of person I work well with. While I think it is important to understand how the past has shaped who you are, I prefer to focus on the present and the future.

Are you a
teen
or a young adult, who has experienced an event that has you stuck in a hard place? I know exactly the feeling: the isolation, painful memories, tears you can't cry or cry all the time, the anger, the inability to recognize yourself in the mirror, the shame of feeling judged and enduring the pain quietly as your faith is in question. I know you are tired of being stuck and want your life back. I look forward to partnering with you on your healing journey by teaching you the tools to move forward at the same time making sure you are seen, heard, and validated.

Whether you are struggling with trauma, difficult relationships, or general dissatisfaction, therapy can help you learn to respond to challenges more productively and with improved flexibility. Looking at one's behaviors and relationships is challenging, but sharing that exploration with a compassionate person can be transformational. My goal is to create a non-judgmental, supportive environment where we can look at your past and present to understand why you might be responding to life in ways that are less than satisfying. We can then focus on how you can pursue your goals, have more intimacy, and feel more vital.

Has life become difficult through no fault of your own? Or maybe it's entirely because of things you've done or failed to do. Either way, you shouldn't have to face it alone. It takes courage to ask for help but the rewards can lead to something greater. Everyone's a little more anxious or depressed these days and sometimes you need help to get back on track. You don't have to do this alone.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
