Welcome to Forrest Christian Counseling!
So many of us have lived feeling weighed down by core beliefs we've carried for years “I’m powerless,” “I’m not good enough,” or “It’s not safe to feel.” These beliefs shape the way we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and the choices we make. At Forrest Christian Counseling, you’ll find compassionate support and guidance as you begin to finally let go of those hurtful beliefs. Together, we’ll help those old beliefs become a thing of the past—so you can make room for something new: “I can get my needs met.” “I am lovable.” "I am enough.”

I am a Licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of experience in mental health. When we experience depression and anxiety it can be frightening. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be both healing and empowering for individuals. I use a cognitive behavioral, strength-based approach to alleviate the effects of trauma and assist individuals to reaching their goal. As we go through life, we must learn to navigate through traumatic events such as the impact of life-threatening illnesses, childhood abuse, and other traumatic occurrences. Often traumatic experiences change our way of life forcing us to define a “New Normal”; I will provide therapeutic support to combat issues such as anxiety, depression, frustration, and trauma.

I take a more proactive approach to our mental health, believing that if we practice consistently, and not just when we are struggling, we can experience greater well-being. With consistent action over time, we can begin to face our challenges, learn to cope with them, and in turn, live a more fulfilling life. I love mindfulness as an emotional management tool, Cognitive Based Therapy to improve resilience and self esteem, and I also like Internal Family Systems and EMDR. Talk therapy is my primary intervention, as expressing one's self is essential.

Life knocks me down and I get back up, as long as I get up, I can keep moving forward. Moving forward is how I reach my goals. Hi, I'm Trey Ras McAdams LPC and I've spent most of my career as a therapist working in inpatient facilities where I had the opportunity to work with severe mental illness like schizophrenia, chronic suicidality, and substance abuse. I have also had the opportunity to help people navigate many of the obstacles that life places in their path, grief, loss, relationship issues and career change. In the face of adversity, I believe the therapeutic environment is ideal to navigate life's challenges as a team.

William White, LCSW Person-Centered, Humanistic, Existential
I am not the expert on you, you are the expert on yourself. I am not the expert because I haven’t lived life in your shoes. I work with clients to find their own strengths and a way forward to achieving their goals. I’d rather work collaboratively with you to figure out what works best for you. I would love to help you find a path toward healing and peace using your strength.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
