In therapy, I strive to create an environment where every client feels seen, heard and understood. I believe the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is a powerful vessel for healing and change. I hope therapy can be a safe place where you are able to heal and grow! Therapy can provide: new mental health tools to improve quality of life, a place to explore hard issues, and collaboration for creating a healthier family or relationship dynamic. Therapy can also provide tools to grieve past experiences or simply a place to learn more about yourself.

I’ve been an LPC and art therapist for awhile now but I’ve been an artist most of my life. Being able to blend art and therapy has been personally and professionally rewarding. We can talk through your emotional struggles. But for clients interested in exploring a nonverbal means of expression through the art process, art therapy can be the shift that is needed for change and healing. My work with clients includes help with anxiety, depression, greif/loss, relationships, stress, trauma and more. I work with clients to help them process their life challenges and discover solutions.

My work encompasses trauma, depression, anxiety, and also some specialties such as working with neurodivergent people and the LGBTQ+ community, dealing with chronic medical conditions/ pain, and helping couples or families heal and flourish.
I am trained as a scientist-practitioner but also bring what I call "two-eyed seeing" to the table. As an Indigenous psychologist, I'm very aware that our rational brains are only part of the equation - you can know all the "right" things to do, yet still be unable to do them or have them fail you. My goal is to help you find your peace, and your happiness.

I use this experience base with clients who have chronic pain and health conditions so that we can appreciate the interplay of physical and mental health and work towards better days.
Hello! I’m Monica, and I do depth-oriented, psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I love helping people feel more fully themselves, connected to others, and at home inside. The journey inward is the road home. To me, therapy is a creative, transformative space where growth, change and healing begin to flow out of a strong connection. This is work that goes deep and takes time. Together, we can look at how your present is shaped by formative experiences in your life. With couples, this framework can help improve your communication and patterns of relating based on a compassionate understanding of one another.

I offer a place where they will be respected while facing honestly the traps of porn addiction, lonely leadership, chronic pain, and doubts about God.
I offer specialized somatic based therapy. Less talk based. More space to notice. People seem to prefer my approach of slowing down to give the issue room to let go of what it was holding onto. Move about your own life again. Easy curiosity in therapy opens up awareness to new possibilities. Sometimes I use EMDR if it is helpful.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
