One of the most challenging experiences for individuals and couples to overcome is healing after a betrayal. Whether you have experienced an extra-marital affair, discovery of some kind of addiction or secret life, or a traumatic life event, the wounds of these betrayals need specialized care in order to heal. Individual, couple and group therapies designed to focus on the healing of betrayal trauma are available at Family Solutions Counseling. At FSC, we use a team approach to get the best treatment to all three entities wounded by betrayal: both individuals and the couple relationship.

I chose my profession because I enjoy helping people overcome their individual struggles and to find meaning in life's uncertainty. I view my therapeutic role as a partner to the client, collaborating in the problem-solving process and seeking out solutions. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, my primary treatment methods are cognitive-behavioral and strengths-based therapy. My clients receive individualized care to meet their personal needs, not a cookie-cutter approach. My practice includes individuals, couples and families facing a wide range of issues from depression, marital conflict to oppositional defiant teenagers.

You’re desperate but determined to do anything you can to help your child be ok, and honestly, to make it easier for everyone. You try your best to keep them calm and manage their emotions, but the slightest thing can set off another tantrum. Their meltdowns make you feel scared, ashamed & guilty, like you’re being judged for somehow failing your child. You seriously wish that life was less difficult for them– that they could handle changes more easily, cultivate friendships, & learn to follow simple directions. But try as you might, there just doesn’t seem to be any real progress. You’re out of ideas and starting to lose hope.

A strong relationship with the counselor is essential for the counseling process. The client comes to the process with a commitment for change. Sometimes the commitment is marginal and helping fortify that commitment is the initial part of our work. I believe that my most effective work is with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family of origin issues and trauma. I work extensively with clients who have personality disorders (ingrained patterns of self defeating behavior). My practice is geared toward adolescents 13 years old through senior adults. I work with individuals and couples/families.

I believe that effective psychotherapy provides a person with increased understanding and self awareness. By gaining deeper insight into lifelong maladaptive patterns, a person can gain the ability to have a healthier lifestyle and outlook on life. One may also come to view their self and others in a completely different way. My style of working with individuals and couples is a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic informed collaborative approach, while being sensitive to each person's specific needs.

At some point, we often find ourselves struggling to get past a problem, whether that problem is with an important relationship, or an inner emotional struggle. I enjoy working with others to understand how one came to be in such conflict and how one can move from old ways of coping to newer healthier ways. I believe working from a relational perspective is an important way to create an atmosphere of trust. I strive to help my patients better understand their thoughts, feelings, and actions. The more we know about ourselves the more freedom we have to make better choices in work, play, and relationships.

Let's be honest, talking to a professional about your problems can be intimidating but taking step for yourself is a deeply rewarding process. Adjusting to the changes that life throws at us can be challenging and we don't always handle it as well as we'd like. In fact, we often find ourselves overwhelmed, anxious, burdened and saddened. My objective is to help you better understand, cope with, problem solve and face those changes in a way that is meaningful to you and your experiences.

No one has the perfect childhood, and even if you come from a family that is intact and loving, life presents crises and challenges when you least expect them. It may be the loss of a loved one, difficulty forming or maintaining relationships, frustrations around a job or reaching a life goal. I believe our perceptions and feelings about the past can change, no matter how disturbing, and once we do that, we can find more joy in the present and face the future with a more positive attitude. People can grow and change at any age.

How can I find a therapist in Oklahoma City?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
