Acceptance, understanding and real compassion for whatever challenges you are facing. That is what myself and my staff are about first and foremost. Sometimes you are faced with things you don't understand that can create pain, frustration and confusion. To many times we say to ourselves, "I can handle this." or "it will just go away in time." These are common and easy mistakes to make. If you are struggling, and things just aren't getting better, you need help from unbiased professionals that will listen to you and help you find peace again.

TEENAGERS ARE CRAZY! Well at least it seems like it for a few years. Raising a teenager can be a roller coaster ride, exciting and a little scary. Typically teens experience an enormous amount physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth during these years. Providing teens with the opportunity to take part in their own counseling allows them to further develop skills which promote independence. The Prevention Center, LLC will help your
child
improve their overall functioning at home, school, within the family, and with peers/social environment. We provide adolescent counseling to
children
ages 12- 18.

Life continuously throws curve balls and coping can be difficult when you are a
child
and are not in direct control of your environment and situations. Sometimes
children
need someone to sit with and help process so many complicated emotions, feelings, and thoughts. I appreciate empowering the clients I meet with and I believe in the transformative value of having a listening ear. I want to be that person for your
child
and encourage them to shine through all of it. I believe your
child
can be a fierce light in this world despite their circumstances.

**NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME** As a play therapist, I believe that play can be used to help families and
children
find solutions. Play is our first language. Play can build trust, regulate emotions, and help us express thoughts and feelings that might otherwise remain hidden. And as a marital and family therapist, I believe that play therapy works best when parents/caregivers and families are actively involved in the treatment process. I want to work with your
child
and family to help you reconnect. I focus on how human potential can be achieved through family relationships, and enhanced through connections with others.

Parenting is the most important job there is but where do we get training? Most of our training is OJT or from our parents but what if our training isn't "good enough?" Have you ever struggled with parenting and wished that you had a safe place to recharge, regroup, and express your frustrations? As a parent I can relate and as a Therapist I am here to help you. Being a kid is difficult. It's frustrating to communicate when your brain doesn't have the words to express what you want to say. Parents use words to communicate but
children
communicate through play.

Play therapy is most important to me, I believe that play is the way that
children
express themselves and make sense of their on world and begin to heal though their therapy play experiences.
My personal philosophy regarding therapy is to focus on the family unit and meet each individual member of the family where they are and treat them as an important part of the therapy. Parents often call me and state they need help for their
child
and my first response is to treat the
child
but consider the whole family unit as a part of the therapy treatment plan. Meeting the individual needs of the client is of the utmost importance.

Humans are built for connection, and my goal is to help clients reach a place where they feel connected to their authentic selves and are able to connect with those who are important to them. I seek to empower my clients by helping them make sense of their history, imagine what a hopeful future might look like, and realize the great resources they already have access to within themselves.

I am passionate about helping
children
who are in families going through the tough stuff. I believe
children
learn and heal best through play. I also enjoy working with adolescents, families, and individual adults. I believe we were created to live in connection with others. The nature of sharing our burdens and hardships with another human who is listening and showing empathy is healing in itself. It is my goal in therapy to create a safe space where you feel heard. We are not promised a life free of hardships but we can journey through it together.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
