My belief as a clinician holds that the most useful tool in therapy is the collaborative relationship between therapist and client. I operate from what is often referred to as a psychodynamic or relational psychodynamic approach. In therapy our tasks are to build a trusting relationship, to discover and understand your beliefs and feelings on their deepest levels, to discover how your history and experiences have shaped your beliefs, and then to address how these beliefs and feelings have helped you as well as limited you.

If you feel the need to reach out I would love to chat with you. I am accepting new clients and taking private pay at a rate of $75 per session. We can speak more if you feel I'd be a good fit but can't afford $75. I am NOT currently able to take insurance.

Immediate Openings “This is the last time I am giving therapy a try”. I have heard these words from many new clients that have had amazing success stories after working with me as their therapist. Not all therapists are the perfect fit for all clients. Let me be that person that helps you become UNSTUCK. You may wonder what makes my approach different than past experiences in therapy. I am a therapist that will help you process your symptoms, challenge your thoughts, give you homework, and keep you accountable. It is nice to process our day-to-day events, but processing alone can keep us feeling STUCK!

Gina’s journey to counseling was anything but direct. After completing her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling (with a specialization in crisis and trauma) at Walden University in 2015, Gina worked at the University of Central Oklahoma as an academic advisor. Her life took an unexpected turn when in November 2019, Gina’s husband was killed in a tragic military aviation training accident. The tremendous loss of her husband affected her in many ways, including gaining a greater understanding of the impact of grief and trauma as well as the secondary losses that occur as part of reconciling the death of a spouse.

I am currently accepting new clients but have limited availability. Do you and your partner struggle to communicate, trust one another, feel close to one another, or fight about the same things over and over? Many couples get stuck in negative patterns or cycles of interaction and do not know how to get out. When our relationship with our partner is in distress we can feel disconnected, alone, confused, and frustrated. In my work I help couples by interrupting their negative patterns so that new positive ways of interacting can be experienced.

As a leader you always end up holding more responsibilities than you signed up for. This mysterious phenomenon crosses into every area of your life. You’ve found joy in creating a family and becoming successful in your career. But on the way to accomplishing your many goals, you seem to have lost some vital part of yourself. Helping others has been your passion and it certainly has its rewards. But lately, you’ve realized something is missing. Anxiety and depression are nipping at your heels. Many people find themselves struggling with hopelessness, anxiety, or managing everyday life experiences within their intimate relationships, parenting, or various stages of life. When we are struggling to stay afloat, it can be difficult to do even the smallest of tasks. We are not promised a life free of difficulties, but we also do not have to struggle through the journey alone. I believe in facilitating a collaborative dynamic in therapy to empower you, as clients, to find healing and solutions to issues.

My counseling philosophy begins by receiving clients with unconditional positive regard and creating a compassionate environment where clients feel safe and supported as they seek to navigate the difficulties of life. Complicated life experiences can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and potentially learned helplessness that negatively impact our self-worth and behaviors in a profound way. I believe that engaging in therapy can increase human capacity for a richer, more meaningful life by clarifying our values and determining what is truly purposeful and fulfilling for our life.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
