At some point, many of us wake up and realize: something isn’t working anymore. Maybe you’re exhausted from holding everything together. Maybe anxiety and perfectionism are running the show. Maybe you’ve spent so long tending to others that you’ve lost sight of your own needs — or even your sense of self. You don’t have to keep white-knuckling your way through it. Therapy can be the place where you finally exhale, speak the truth, and feel seen.

I primarily operate out of a psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic frame of reference where we will explore the major story lines of your life and the impact these experiences have had on your perspective of yourself, others, and your outlook on life.
It is my belief that we are all trying to live meaningful lives in which we are able to express our talents and abilities and make deeper connections with those who are most important to us. The type of psychotherapy I provide offers a safe and accepting environment where obstacles that prevent a fuller life are explored and understood. A good psychotherapy outcome is one where a person experiences greater self-acceptance and greater self-love. My goal is to help each person see and understand the fuller picture of his or her life to be in a position of choosing to live more fully.

I often meet with clients who are struggling with feelings and behaviors that have come to the surface without them knowing why. I see this a lot in my work with adolescents, adults and couples. For many, life has become more complicated than they expected it would and no one should have to navigate that complexity alone. I believe in the relationship between the client and therapist and have witnessed it lead to growth and change. If you are looking to try therapy, please pursue it. My hope is that you would experience the real, meaningful change that therapy can provide us all.

In my practice, I primarily lean on Psychodynamic and Relational models to help me in understanding others.
I approach the therapy process with a belief that creating space for reflection, understanding, and change is a valuable pursuit within itself. With my particular approach to therapy, I carry the assumption that we tend to get stuck in our different forms of emotional distress (anxiety, depression, etc.) when our familiar ways of doing things are no longer serving us, and we’re needing to find new ways that better serve us in the now. When beginning with a client, I like to take the time that's needed to understand the specific difficulties a client is experiencing, and then begin to work alongside them towards meaningful change.

My initial goal as a therapist is to create an environment that feels comfortable to process complicated issues and emotions. Seeking out a therapist is intimidating. And often times finding the right therapist doesn't happen on the first try. Understanding that no one wants to have to tell their story over and over, I hope to be clear from the start about what you can expect in therapy with me so you are able to make an informed decision about if you would like to work together (and I hope you do!).

My forte is helping women move from self-abandonment to self-devotion. I work with women who are highly sensitive, empathic, and who typically have a history of trauma. Most often, they have struggled with boundaries, people-pleasing tendencies, and attachment issues within their relationships. In addition, I see patterning around disconnection from the self and identity struggles.
I witness the most profound shifts when these women are able to emphasize prioritization of self, maintain a heart-centered approach, discover embodiment, build a container of safety, and develop self-compassion.

Life is a journey and striving to be our best self is an ongoing task. Throughout life difficulties arise like marital difficulties, divorce, parenting uncertainties, career changes, mental health symptoms, addiction, life-span transitions, family relationships, traumatic events, and more. Part of the journey in life is adapting and coping to changes, while discovering oneself. Together, we are a team, working toward the same goal. As your therapist I offer support, but will also ensure you are lovingly challenged toward personal growth.

I would love to help you create more flexibility and creativity in your relationships to self and others. We'll do this using depth psychology ideas, somatic attention, EMDR, and EFT Tapping. I listen to the stories you tell and how you tell them. Attention to posture and sensation helps us see body narratives, and observation of speech patterns and words provides clues about mental and emotional themes. Eventually new stories and possibilities appear as we interrupt worn out messages and invite new meanings. You will learn emotion regulation, self-advocacy, boundary-setting, and increased creative resilience.

I use a combination of different therapy types including Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Psychodynamic, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My personal counseling philosophy begins with the grace and courage shown when a new client allows me to journey with them during the counseling process. I have found that when modifying thoughts and emotions with self-awareness and eventually modifying behaviors, that this process will positively impact your quality of life and improve your closest relationships! I joined this profession as I feel I can authentically listen to and meet each of my clients where they are. At times, changes in self-perception, insight, and self-growth can be uncomfortable.

Too many of us move through life feeling like "human doings" rather than "human beings"—exhausted by expectations and disconnected from our own needs. I work with adolescents, adults, older adults, and families who seek relief from anxiety, depression, eating disorders, family or parenting challenges. If you are hoping to quiet your inner critic and find practical coping skills that offer immediate relief, you are in the right place. We can work together to identify the root of these struggles, change negative thought patterns, and prioritize your wellbeing to help you recognize your true worth.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
