Hi and welcome to Leah Brady Counseling! Some of my favorite therapy sessions feel less like formal appointments and more like meaningful conversations. I create a space where you can feel safe to open up—where trust grows naturally. As a therapist, I often bear witness to some of life’s hardest moments: heartbreak, shame, fear, and grief. I don’t take that lightly. I’m honored every time someone chooses to share their story with me. I see my role as someone who holds your story with care—confidentially and without judgment.

I am currently accepting new clients but have limited availability. Do you and your partner struggle to communicate, trust one another, feel close to one another, or fight about the same things over and over? Many couples get stuck in negative patterns or cycles of interaction and do not know how to get out. When our relationship with our partner is in distress we can feel disconnected, alone, confused, and frustrated. In my work I help couples by interrupting their negative patterns so that new positive ways of interacting can be experienced.

Through talk, play, or other creative expression, I’ll help you explore your story and move toward healing.
Welcome — I’m so glad you’re here. I believe that telling your story is powerful. Life brings struggles—trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, difficult relationships, major transitions, or simply the challenge of finding our place. When these experiences begin to define us, they can take away our sense of joy and direction. We may feel stuck, unsure of who we want to be or how to move forward. These moments are part of the human experience—whether we face them as individuals, in relationships, within families, or in our communities. Often, the first step is developing awareness and allowing ourselves to truly sit with how we feel.

Sessions available for the woman who is tired of being tired. You overthink everything. Avoid conflict, possibly identify as a people pleaser. Say yes when you want to scream no. You’re done people-pleasing and tired of feeling like “too much” and “not enough” at the same time. You want therapy that actually helps you set boundaries, stop spiraling, and finally feel in control of your life, all from the comfort of your own space.

In sessions, I work to listen deeply and create an accepting atmosphere. There, you can become curious about your thoughts, feelings and actions, explore how your past is influencing your life today and confront the repeating patterns of emotional reaction and behavior that get in the way of your finding satisfaction in your relationships and work. In my practice, I work with individuals with anxiety, depression, problems of adjustment to stages of life, work related stress, relationship problems, transitions and coping with the effects of trauma.

School-aged children generally benefit from a combination of play therapy techniques and talking and learning about feelings and social skills (depending on their needs).
I have 1 opening for an adult... I work with adults who come to therapy for parenting concerns, attachment or relationship issues, anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD and/or Autism, adjustment issues and life transitions (divorce, separation, loss, work stressors, etc.), or issues related to family of origin. I also work with new and expecting parents and infants and children 0-6. My favorite clients are overwhelmed, stressed, driven, worried they are doing life wrong, feeling like an imposter, and trying to figure out how everyone else keeps up. If you consider yourself a highly sensitive person, you've come to the right place.

Play Therapy
Who is play therapy for?
Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?
Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?
A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?
Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?
Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
