At my core, I believe that play is an essential part of a human interaction. This is because I wholeheartedly believe that play should not end at a certain age, or when a child is “too old”. From a young age, play is how we learn boundaries and social skills. Play can also be used to process trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and much more. Play therapy can help build trust and attachment with your child, while the both of you learn more helpful behaviors and how to express your emotions. I encourage a child’s caregivers to take an active role in the therapeutic process.

I work with children, teens, and young adults with a passion to help you navigate anxiety or the effects of trauma. I believe therapy isn't about "fixing you", but instead our time should feel safe, supportive, and empowering. In the beginning, we’ll set meaningful goals and build lasting tools you want for life beyond our sessions. We will continue to be curious about how you are growing and understand what more you need as you become more empowered over time. Real healing often happens between our conversations so this is how I walk alongside you as you grow.

Since retiring from the military 10 years ago, I have discovered that there is a lot more going on in my inner life than I had realized. As I have learned to recognize and understand my own emotions, I have developed a growing passion for helping others do the same. I am particularly interested in working with other men who are unsure of how to recognize, think about, and talk about what is going on in their hearts and minds. If the only emotion you can recognize is anger, let's talk.

I have experience working with adoptive families and all of the unique dynamics that accompany building a family through adoption.
Immediate openings available! Therapy is a space where rather than asking "What is wrong with you?" we can answer the question "What happened to you?" I help people who feel stuck in old patterns, professionals burned out from giving too much, and anyone carrying the weight of past trauma who wants to finally feel at peace in their own skin. My goal is to help you feel calmer in your body, more confident in your decisions, and more connected to the people you love. Therapy isn’t just about healing the past, it’s about creating a future where you feel free, steady, and genuinely yourself.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
