In addition to traditional cognitive-behavioral "talk-therapies," I provide EMDR to address trauma, PTSD symptoms, and self-defeating core beliefs.
One of my primary goals as a therapist is to highlight the tendency we have to let the problems we experience interfere with the things in life that we value most. This can leave us feeling extremely frustrated, unfulfilled, and even hopeless! I want to help people learn to practice acceptance and mindfulness, as we develop and determine a sense of direction, with the goal of restoring a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

I have training in EMDR, attachment-based approaches, CBT and DBT.
Currently available for short term counseling only. Finding the time to work on ourselves can seem overwhelming. Seeking help can be anxiety provoking. But when we take the time to sift through the pain, improve our relationships and overall health, then our quality of life can improve. We can also learn how to better manage the difficult times that come. Life isn't always pleasant, but you don't have to go through it alone.

I am also a certified EMDR therapist, which is a very effective treatment for trauma.
The relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important factors in successful treatment outcomes. However, looking for a therapist can sometimes be a daunting task. "How do I know if this is the right one? What questions do I ask?" It is your privelege as a client to be particular when choosing someone to care for your mental health. I welcome you to call for a free phone consultation to discuss your symptoms and concerns, and then together we can decide if my treatment expertise are the best fit for your particular needs.

As an EMDR trained, attachment-focused psychotherapist, I believe that unresolved trauma is a lens that distorts our view of the world around us.
Trauma leaves us feeling stuck in a loop of stress, doubt, fear, & shame. You may be fed up with reliving unpleasant memories & experiencing the world disconnected, looking out from behind the veil of trauma. Perhaps you don’t even remember a time when this was not your reality - but one thing is certain: you deserve some relief. You’re ready to let go of fear & face the world with confidence. Most of all, you are ready to regain self-worth and emotionally heal.

I incorporate evidence-based counseling techniques such as Solution-Focused, Narrative Therapy, Trust-Base Relational Intervention (TBRI), Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness as a part of your treatment.
I am so proud of you for taking this first step into healing journey! You've heard the sayings...I’m not worthy, I’m nobody, I lost hope a long time ago, I’ll always be this way, I’ll never get through this. All of these sayings are what most of us believed at some point on this journey called life. Searching for a glimmer of hope seems impossible when life makes you feel that you are all alone. Those are all lies that we are forced to believe, but there is hope for those misguided beliefs. You are powerful, strong, and worthy. I would love to walk alongside you on this journey and help you find strength, hope, and peace.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
