Do you have a hard time identifying with yourself or others? Do you feel like you are secretly an outsider and find it difficult to connect or relate to others? I can tell you that I have been there and can relate to the emotional hardships of being you and navigating life and relationships. As a single mother and a military veteran, I know firsthand the amount of strength and courage it takes to believe in yourself and to be able to follow through with your goals.

I have been in the helping profession for over 25 years, working with a wide variety of clients across the life span. I approach clients with an open mind, encouraging them to set their goals and collaborate with me to resolve their problems and issues. I am solution-focused, asking, "what do you need to be the healthiest person you can be? How can I help?" Clients have told me they most appreciate that I listen, do not judge, and provide an empathetic ear. I find clients often have the answer to their issues, but they need help recognizing that answer. Yes, change is hard, but it can be accomplished with faith and work.

I believe life is a journey and sometimes we experience obstacles on our journey. These obstacles can sometimes affect our family, work, and our overall well-being, which requires us to ask for a helping hand. I believe I can help you overcome those obstacles to reach your full potential. After all, we all have the right to live our best lives possible.

I enjoy working with individuals who are deeply connected to their community, including families, first responders, military members, & neighbors. These individuals may be facing challenges such as the after-effects of trauma, the unique stressors of military life or high-pressure careers, & symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, or difficulty adjusting. Clients are seeking support to develop healthy coping mechanisms, improve relationships, & find a sense of inner peace and purpose. Motivated to engage in therapy & committed to their well-being, ultimately striving for a fulfilling life free from burdens of past experiences.

Perhaps you have never considered therapy before, thinking that issues related to individuals, partners, marriage, and family are private matters. I understand—I've been there. Consulting with a trained therapist can significantly improve or even alleviate the pain and challenges you are facing. It does not imply that something is wrong with you; rather, it shows strength in seeking support. Therapy is not a crutch for the weak; it is an opportunity for growth. Engaging in therapy can mark a turning point in your life, allowing you to delve into self-discovery, set goals, and ultimately lead to a more fulfilling life.

I simply provide a safe space for you to explore where you've been, where you currently are, and explore what parts of yourself get in the way of you living the life you want to live. We all carry wounds and scars from our journey through life, often inflicted by other humans. Our entire being has learned that it's just not safe. Chronically living in protection mode has harmful effects on our body, emotional well being, and our relationships. I want to help you find peace within yourself and your relationships. You can learn to connect to those you love in a safe way, with neither you nor them collecting more wounds.

The challenges we face are often insurmountable, and the reality is that sometimes we cannot do it alone. Asking for assistance may make you feel uncomfortable, and that’s okay! Events that have transpired throughout my life have allowed me to develop compassion and empathy for others. I have a genuine desire to be of service to other individuals. I am confident in my ability to help you bring about transformation within yourself. The sun is waiting for you on the other side of the storm.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
