Everyone is trying their best. The world we live in rarely offers people the opportunity to live life trauma-free. Certainly no one I've met has lived that life. It's not until we recognize the ways in which we've been hurt, most often by people we trusted most, that we are able to find ourselves again. Trauma tells us we can't move on or be happy, it tells us that we aren't worth the good and fulfilling life we deserve. Trauma tells us that we deserve to be punished and alone. Unlearning these harmful narratives allows us to develop healthy boundaries and connection with those closest to us.

I believe that life's struggles can have multiple causes. That is, difficulties can be related to developmental issues, childhood or family-of-origin issues with deep-rooted histories or can be unexpected circumstances ranging from daily frustrations to traumatic life-altering events. My approach to therapy understands that much of our healing can be found in an empathic, supportive therapeutic encounter that challenges and supports individuals on a journey of self-discovery. I believe that good therapy is found when a therapist collaborates with his/her clients in this journey of self-discovery.

I have been counseling since 2006. My approach to therapy is called "Person Centered," which means that I meet people where they are and work at their pace towards their goals. I believe that every person I see is an intelligent, worthwhile human being that just wants to make their life better. I aim to be genuine, respectful and trustworthy, in order to create a place where people feel safe enough to process, understand and resolve their struggles. I love helping people find insight into their problem behavior and the courage to change it.

Waitlist for new clients
My personal counseling philosophy begins with the grace and courage shown when a new client allows me to journey with them during the counseling process. I have found that when modifying thoughts and emotions with self-awareness and eventually modifying behaviors, that this process will positively impact your quality of life and improve your closest relationships! I joined this profession as I feel I can authentically listen to and meet each of my clients where they are. At times, changes in self-perception, insight, and self-growth can be uncomfortable.

For 25 years I've worked with individuals, couples and families. All of us, have delt with anxiety, depression, or relationships. My practice is predominantly filled with men. They struggle with the above as well as issues like cancer, life transitions and grief. Each of my clients made the decision to reach out for help. You can too. I make it easy. I see clients exclusively on line. Sometimes things happen. I've had clients see me in their car, office or even getting privacy in the back yard. I'm confident I can help. Why not set-up a video consult?

It is an honor to work with people as a Therapist. Every person in therapy should be made: 1) to feel understood; 2) to feel appreciated; 3) to be given the benefit of the doubt; 4) to be treated as an equal; 5) to be treated respectfully; 6) to have the freedom to decide. My primary goal as a counselor is to allow you to express your thoughts and feelings so that you can gain a greater understanding of yourself and situation. As a result you will gain insight into what you want to change and how to change it. In addition to exploring feelings and thoughts, I will suggest things that may help.

Despite our strengths we can feel stuck, unable to move forward with a life that aligns with our goals and values. We often continue using coping skills that were once helpful but now no longer help move us through the more challenging and unexpected issues in our lives. Together we identify these familiar yet unproductive styles of coping with compassion. I use techniques that approach difficult thoughts and feelings without fearing, fighting or running from them while being able to address them with acceptance.

Right now you feel overwhelmed and helpless. It's as if you're constantly battling whispers that you're not enough, your relationships are destined to fail, or your life's purpose has faded away? Let me assure you: hope is very much alive. In the hectic pace of life, it's all too easy to feel lost, as if our daily routines are more burdensome than fulfilling. When exhaustion sets in from trying to juggle all your responsibilities—be it in personal life, marriage, work, or your calling—you might find yourself standing on the brink, looking out and feeling utterly alone.

Being a person of long term recovery myself, I am uniquely qualified to help individuals and families struggling with addiction issues seeking long-term solutions. Since much of addiction is rooted in trauma, we explore the hurts that caused dysfunction in coping skills along with the effects of addiction on spouses, the family unit and friends.

I hope as a therapist to provide a safe, welcoming space in which we can wrestle with and struggle through difficulties together. My approach to therapy is to address a person’s current issues as well as to explore the life and person in which they are occurring. I believe a person is much more than their symptoms and struggles and I strive to meet and know each client I work with in this holistic way. My aim is to help others find peace and meaning in their lives and to accompany them as they work to live in accordance to their own values and beliefs.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
