Have you experienced a relationship breakup or a death? Maybe you've been bullied as a kid? Did you grow up in a home that was dysfunctional? Typically these types of events cause a profound impact on us; depression, anxiety, job problems, etc. These losses/events could have happened yesterday or decades ago; they can still impact us. These are the types of issues I specialize in treating and helping people recover from. If I have just described events in your life I encourage you to give me a call at 614-785-1600 or check out my website at www.lindasix.com

Reaching out for counseling can be scary or intimidating. It can also be challenging to find the right "fit" with a therapist. I hope to offer a place where clients can feel seen, heard, and appreciated. Seeking counseling can help you make sense of your past, present, and your future. If you are feeling down, anxious, lost, or just off and your current coping skills aren't working, starting therapy might be a good next step.

There are few professional relationships where trust, a commitment to openness, and creating a safe environment are more important than in the client/therapist dynamic. Finding the right therapist can be a difficult but essential feature in creating personal growth and fulfillment. It is my passionate belief that this working relationship between client and therapist is the foundation of successful treatment. I have over sixteen years of experience working with a broad and varied range of individuals struggling with a myriad of challenges, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, isolation, sexuality, gender identity, and relationship issues.

A shift in your emotions and beliefs can shift your whole life. Feelings, such as depression, despair, anxiety and fear take you out of alignment with functional living and with creating what you want in your life. Our body is in part the product of our habits, beliefs, thoughts and feelings. If you put enough stress on yourself you will create disease. Disease can't live in a body/mind that is present and healthy emotionally. I support you to create body/mind/spirit health on a deep cellular level making the difference, between healing or not healing.

Even when life is too much, your resilience is there. With the right conditions it strengthens. I work with people who are creating or want to create a whole-hearted life. My clients are diverse in race, ethnicity, spirituality, nationality, gender and sexual identity. Many are caregivers, service providers in education, healthcare, psychology, volunteers or activists. Some are creative and/or are yogis, artists, musicians or writers. Therapy and self-care help them to be stronger for themselves first, but also for those they love, in their career and for the world at large.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
