Are you looking to go beyond the surface and deep dive to discover the root of your suffering and struggles that you are facing? Are you needing to integrate pieces of your life story and make sense of something that has left you disjointed, disillusioned or trapped? Perhaps you are ready or feeling a need to create space to unfold some of the painful material that keeps you in perpetuating cycles or patterns that have been difficult to manage and break.

Hey there! This is your friendly neighborhood Gothippie Therapist! I believe in creating a safe and affirming space where everyone feels truly heard, seen, and accepted. I understand the deep pain of feeling invisible and judged, and the exhaustion that comes with navigating life with a chronic illness. I have a particular passion for helping those who struggle with impulse control, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts. I know these experiences often bring intense shame or a feeling of guilt, making it even harder to reach out for support. I sincerely want to help you live your best life worth living.

It can be difficult to navigate life when you are feeling stuck. Pain from the past and uncertainty of the future can often create a burden that feels unmanageable. My therapy style is holistic, meaning I work with clients from a safe space that promotes curiosity, exploration, and reflection. I value a collaborative approach in therapeutic relationships where clients and I work together. I believe therapy allows us to reflect on feelings in the here and now. I am EMDR trained and use an integrative approach to therapy. Additionally, I support that the mind and body are connected, and impact our mental health.

I love this work! I have had a 20+ year career as a college professor and, during that time, was driven by my passion for helping others. My strong desire to help in a deeper, more holistic way led me to pursue counseling. Building a strong, trusting, collaborative relationship with clients is of the utmost importance to me. I strive to support and guide clients while working to foster introspection, insight, and personal growth. My hope is to help clients empower themselves to more effectively manage life challenges, to overcome obstacles, and, if needed, to make changes that will allow them to more fully flourish in their lives.

Hi, I’m Billi, and I’ve been a therapist for over 10 years helping adults and adolescents overcome and heal from some of life's more difficult challenges. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to understand and address the issues you’re facing and I her will be there to support you every step of the way. My approach is warm, nurturing, and thoughtful creating a safe space where you can explore your feelings, find clarity, and heal. I also believe in the power of humor, so while the process of healing can be deep and challenging it doesn’t have to be serious work all the time.

I have been working in the behavior health field for 40 years as a therapist as well as a clinical supervisor and administrator in small and large behavioral health organizations. I was born in Kentucky and have lived in Cincinnati area for over 30 years. I went to graduate school in West Virginia and am fully licensed in Ohio. After my years of administration, I found myself increasingly drawn back to doing more work directly with people, particularly those struggling with depression, anxiety and a relief from their day to day struggles.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
