It is my honor to walk alongside my clients through some of the most difficult things they face on their journey to healing. We all develop emotional stuck points that hold us back from mental and emotional health. There is hope! Brain based therapy is one of the best answers to these stuck points. I am an EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist offering intensives. I work from an attachment based, trauma informed perspective for healing.

I want to share a goal with my clients to create a partnership where clients feel empowered for growth, healing, and positive change. Although I have a traditional office setting offered year round, for those who are interested in a new approach to problem solving, I offer an alternative approach to traditional counseling by linking clients with horses during their sessions. Equine Assisted Counseling or equine assisted therapy, incorporates horses into families, and individual counseling sessions to facilitate emotional growth and learning.

My ideal client is the client that is willing to do the mental and emotional work that a therapeutic relationship requires, regardless of the issue they are bringing. These clients are desirous of change and growth and have some degree of motivation to achieve them. They want to understand themselves better in order to develop and maintain healthy relationships with themselves and others. They commit their time and energy to themselves and the process and are respectful of my time.

I have been engaged in the practice of psychotherapy for over 25 years. I enjoy working with older children/preteens, teenagers, and adults, and the challenges each of these unique age groups present. As a parent myself, I can appreciate and empathize with the stress that can go along with this family role, as well as its joys. In my sessions I strive to ensure that those individuals I'm working with feel respected, valued, and truly heard, regardless of age. And I invite feedback during our work to assure this is occurring.

If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, body image, life transitions, or a history of trauma such as physical or sexual abuse or neglect, we will work together to strengthen your relationship with your therapist, the people around you, and ultimately yourself.
I have been formally trained in therapeutic methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT, including trauma-focused CBT), as well as the Infant Mental Health therapeutic model, which focuses on enriching parent-child relationships and strengthening attachment. However, I use an eclectic mix of methods in order to best tailor treatment to the individual.

My professional history consists of 14 years in addiction counseling and an additional 3 years of mental health/relationship counseling. I believe the individual is comprised of four domains: Biological, Psychological, Social and Spiritual. In our search for purpose and meaning all of these domains must be addressed. I embrace a holistic approach to counseling which views the counselor as a trained professional- but not all knowing expert. While the client has problems; the client also has solutions. Through a therapeutic alliance, together we can develop a plan that will lead to a more fulfilling life.

You honor your vows, but do you honor your needs? Silence in the bedroom doesn’t mean peace—it often means pain that’s never been voiced. In therapy I will get you talking about what you want and don't want in the bedroom. It doesn't have to be awkward. Imagine yourself talking confidently about sex. I can get you there!

Individual counseling provides an opportunity for you to talk openly about your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgmental environment. I work with a variety of clients including children, adolescents, adults, and those within the LGBTQ community. With children and some adolescents, differing modalities of therapy, including art and music, provide an additional outlet for those who cannot always verbalize thoughts and feelings. Family dynamics can often be challenging, whether you have a traditional or non-traditional family, and I can help. Together, we can work through your concerns.

I hope to encounter every client with compassion and curiosity. Combining both the humanistic and pragmatic, I use person-centered and emotion-focused approaches when I accompany my clients in the therapy process. I enjoy working with people with diverse backgrounds, life experiences, faiths, and cultures. Rather than acting out of fear or hiding, I hope to address and manage the challenges you experience in your life at a pace that feels safe. I believe in developing new perspectives, empowering clients, and fostering agency.

I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a supervisory endorsement (LISW-S) in Ohio and am a white, queer, mid-size, cisgender woman. I adopt a relaxed, client-led, and collaborative therapeutic style. I believe in creating a non-judgmental space where clients feel seen and heard, recognizing they are the experts of their experiences. My approach is trauma-informed, feminist, and culturally humble, aiming to help clients live authentically and heal the parts of their stories that get in the way of that goal. I seek out regular feedback to ensure clients' needs are met and that they feel safe being open and vulnerable

Are you feeling overwhelmed by past experiences, anxiety, depression, or family stress? Maybe you’re trying to break patterns from your own childhood or support a child who has experienced trauma. If so, you’re not alone and you don’t have to navigate it on your own. My goal is to help clients better understand their experiences, build on their strengths, and develop tools that allow them and their families to heal and grow. I believe healing happens when we move beyond “black and white” thinking and explore the full complexity of your story with curiosity and compassion.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
