My goal is to teach you, the parent , positive parenting techniques so you can replace those short term solutions you may have been using with methods that produce long term results.
Whether you’re a child or an adult, the need to be seen and validated feels the same within all of us. We all face difficulties at some point, and while there’s sometimes pride in not needing others; your mental well-being isn’t one you have to face by yourself. By focusing on the person first, I strive to build a relationship with my clients so that each session and treatment approach is individualized to your needs and what works best for you. We talk about what you want to talk about, as much or as little, with as many or few details, for as long as you want.

Every day people find themselves facing struggles individually and collectively. It is natural that our internal and external resources may become strained beneath this pressure. Self-esteem, relationships, parenting skills, work, and even our faith can suffer. The longer we wait for help the more difficult it can be to identify what in our life needs to change in order for us to heal and grow. Although it can be intimidating, when you begin your journey of self-discovery and personal growth, amazing things can happen.

I am here to offer support to parents, including one on one sessions to provide parenting techniques, as needed.
Children face their own dilemmas. Which can make them feel overwhelmed, frustrated, impulsive, or anxious and act out. I use a child's natural language of play to explore these feelings with them and their families. I believe that the best therapy and care comes from a safe, trusting and nurturing environment and relationship. I am here to help your child and family learn to heal from traumatic events and everyday stressors. I have completed education and training to be a credentialed Registered Play Therapist. I received my MA in Community Counseling from Siena Heights, in 2010.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
