Learn skills such as positive psychology, self-compassion, mindfulness , acceptance, and self-talk.
Helen Keller wrote, "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." For those in emotional pain, life can be a dark and lonely place. When we suffer, we lose touch with our core of strength and well-being. But the resilience of the human heart offers hope for healing. I will provide reassurance through a strong bond of trust and non-judgmental acceptance. In a compassionate and supportive atmosphere, I will help you find your way back to peace and well-being.

My main focuses of treatment are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength Based Perspective, Trauma Focused, Solution Focused, EMDR and Mindfulness practices.
Many individuals of all ages are faced with challenges that lead to anxiety, depression, traumatic symptoms, communication struggles, and low self confidence. With all of these challenges piling on top of one another, it makes it difficult to effectively process and complete ones daily tasks. In children and teens, these stressors often show themselves as struggling to fit in at school, low self esteem, seclusion, low motivation, and poor communication skills. Many adults struggle with the stress of daily work life balance, relationships, family dynamics, and past traumas.

I am guided through an understanding of depth psychology; which seeks to explore/honor the unconscious and conscious aspects of the mind; contemplative practices/ mindfulness techniques to help build awareness; and dialectical/cognitive behavioral therapy to provide sufficient practical approaches to help with integration and change.
In my work as a clinician, I utilize a creative and strengths based approach in helping clients identify their own path towards a whole versus fragmented sense of self. My goal in therapy is to empower the client to develop the capacity and skills to move past their suffering into a greater sense of well-being, peace and freedom.

Mindfulness , self-actualization, and acceptance mixed with a little humor are key motivators in the continuum toward empowerment and positive change.
Taking that first step toward positive change is often the most important and the most difficult. The fact that you are reading this is a good sign that you are contemplating making some changes so you are already making progress! It is empowering to see such changes begin to unfold motivating you toward clarity and acceptance. With over 20 years of experience, I have assisted individuals in overcoming barriers that hold them back from becoming their ideal selves. From adjustment to life-altering changes to post-trauma, grief, guilt, hopelessness, severe mental illness, suicidality and self-harm.

My focus as a therapist is to assist you in personal healing and discovering your wholeness. Therapy is a process that allows us to reflect, discover, and grow. Often feelings of depression and anxiety, self-esteem and relationship issues, addiction and trauma can block us from feeling "ok", and fully integrated into the life we want. My training in EMDR, as well as IFS informed EMDR, TF-CBT, blended with a utilization of mindfulness principles and "parts work" serve to assist my clients in healing and growth.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
