Ruins are not empty. They are sacred places full of presence (John O'Donahue: Anam Cara). Uncovering a deeper understanding of ourselves most often comes from experiencing unexpected changes such as divorce, the loss of a loved one, mental and physical health changes and even embarking on a new career. Changes can throw us into chaos. Let's discover your presence, your power of growth, and your peace within. Let's talk about our options.

As a mom of three who also works full time, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to balance the many demands of life while trying to prioritize your own well-being. Too often, mental health ends up taking a back seat to everything else. But caring for your mind is just as important as caring for your family, work, and relationships—and you don’t have to do it alone.

Hello! I have been a counselor for 18 years. I love meeting and working with people of all communities. This often includes clients focusing on mood disorders, self-esteem and anxiety. I also love working with people who are LGBTQIA2s and have provided multiple referral letters for clients seeking gender-affirming procedures. I have a casual approach and use a lot of humor in sessions, but don't let that fool you.

"My mission in life is not to merely survive, but to thrive and do so with some passion, compassion, some humor, and some style." -Maya Angelou As black women we are usually the last on our list- the order is usually kids, partners, parents, family, jobs, friends... then you. All of this and we're barely making it. Why continue to struggle and merely survive, when you can thrive. Depression doesn't always look like tears and pity parties. It can look like overwhelm, anger, unstable emotions, isolation, and anxiety too! Sound like anyone you know? Is it you girl?

I help high-achieving adults move beyond perfectionism, people-pleasing, and trauma into more connected, fulfilling relationships. On the outside, you look composed. On the inside, you’re overwhelmed, disconnected, or quietly unraveling and no one seems to notice because you’re so good at performing stability. You mask your suffering with competence. I can help you discover who you are beyond unrealistic expectations, untangle performance pressure, and deepen your relationships.

I view counseling as a collaborative process between the client and the therapist, with the client being the expert on their own lives. My ultimate goal as a therapist is to support my clients in achieving the goals they set for themselves. My background includes working with adolescents in a residential treatment and hospital setting, working as a school-based mental health provider, providing counseling services in a university counseling center to undergraduate students, and working with clients ages 5 through 75 in an outpatient setting.

I enjoy working with emerging and young adults seeking a healthier relationship with food, their bodies, and their minds. If you've been struggling with the cycle of control, restriction, binge eating, or self-criticism, it can feel overwhelming and isolating to break free. Together, we can navigate your journey toward greater self-acceptance, peace, balance and well-being. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and am especially passionate about working with those who feel misrepresented in the dominant narrative of eating disorders and recovery, whether due to body size, identity, or other factors.

I work with driven, high-functioning adults who look composed on the outside but feel restless, disconnected, or emotionally numb inside. Many of my clients carry a lot of responsibility, hold themselves to high internal standards, or feel most valued for what they provide rather than who they are. If you’ve built a life around competence but still feel unseen, anxious, or strangely empty, therapy here focuses on slowing down, telling the truth, and understanding the deeper patterns that keep you managing instead of feeling.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
