Do you find yourself struggling to feel truly happy, no matter what you do? Are you someone whose life looks "good" from the outside, and yet it still feels like something is missing? Maybe you are not happy with some of the choices you are making and feel the need to make some changes. Maybe a life event has highlighted the fact that you're still not as happy or content as you want to be. Or maybe you just want to gain deeper insight into yourself and your past experiences, and you're ready to start creating new patterns in your life.

I am an addiction expert and psychologist who works with individuals, spouses, and families struggling with the devastating impact of addiction, trauma, and relational distress. Many of my clients turn to substances or compulsive behaviors as a way of coping, while others engage in self-harming patterns that can also become addictive in nature. These struggles often affect not only the individual but also their loved ones—and healing requires addressing the whole system.

I am a trauma informed professional with many years experience working with folxs across the spectrum of substance use and emotional disorders to achieve better emotional and mental health.
I want to say something brilliant here, something that gains your trust to talk with me, something different from every other therapist on this page; however, I am not that different. I want to work with anyone who is seeking help for something distressing. If this is you, I would like to talk with you.

Even when life feels like it should be going well, we can often feel like we wrestle with managing. The first step in this process is to notice when and where we are struggling. The second is to work towards making changes in our lives for the better. You don’t have to handle those situations on your own. My style is to incorporate a strengths-based approach while using a blend of techniques. I enjoy working alongside my clients to collaboratively create goals to help them tackle whatever life challenges they are facing and assist in their journey of creating a life they want.

I will provide you or your teenager with a safe and confidential space to navigate anxiety, depression, identity, pressure, burnout, relationship challenges, and the quiet weight of trying to be " enough." Youth, young adults, and LGBTQ+ identity are supported, not labeled. I work with people who have often been the “black sheep” or truth tellers in their families or communities, those labeled difficult or “too much” for speaking honestly about abuse, addiction, or dysfunction. Many come to therapy after years of feeling dismissed or misunderstood by family systems, institutions, or even previous therapists. My practice centers complex trauma and marginalized voices, including LGBTQIA+ clients, and focuses on helping people reconnect with their voice and sense of self.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
