Hello! I have been a counselor for 18 years. I love meeting and working with people of all communities. This often includes clients focusing on mood disorders, self-esteem and anxiety. I also love working with people who are LGBTQIA2s and have provided multiple referral letters for clients seeking gender-affirming procedures. I have a casual approach and use a lot of humor in sessions, but don't let that fool you.

“Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain. But you are not the rain.” – Matt Haig We all need the opportunity in our lives to be seen, heard, and validated and therapy is a safe place to find that. Whether it’s coping with stress, processing difficult emotions, adapting to life changes, or dealing with anxiety, depression, or ADHD, I am here to see, hear, and validate you.

Our lives are a journey, filled with a seemingly infinite amount of experiences. We are the sum of all of those experiences. Some of those are positive; some are not. Our minds are shaped by the experiences that we've had through this journey. Sometimes, we need to un-learn some of those habits, especially those that make us feel anxious, or angry, or hopeless, or alone. My goal is to give you the tools in order to tell your story, and then we'll take a look together. The full view. Together, we'll trace how these past experiences have shaped you to help you better understand yourself and break free of this cycle.

My specialities include trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, men's issues and life transitions.
Experiencing the weight of intense emotions associated with depression or anxiety is too common. There might be a perceived distance between yourself and your loved ones. Dissatisfaction with relationships involving parents, children, or significant others is not uncommon. It can sometimes feel like nobody truly comprehends what you're going through. Whether dealing with family or relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma, or other life stressors, therapy can be a pivotal step toward healing.

I am motivated to meet my clients where they are and support them on their own unique path to self exploration and discovery. I approach therapy with a focus on promoting positive awareness into life circumstances to aid clients in discovering the value, meaning and purpose in their lives. I believe that life’s greatest victories are achieved from finding the meaning of our life’s greatest defeats.

For Individuals: My ideal client is someone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally disconnected — even though they’re often seen by others as “functioning just fine.” Their goals might include managing anxiety, emotional reactivity, strengthening relationships, setting boundaries, understanding themselves more deeply, healing from past wounds, feeling more balanced and purposeful. For Couples: Couples therapy isn’t about blaming or “fixing” one another. It’s about working as a team to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface — and learning new ways to show up for each other with care, curiosity, and honesty.

If you keep asking yourself, “I don’t know why I’m like this,” “Am I crazy?” or “Why can’t I just get it together?” therapy can help you slow down, make sense of the pattern, and reset with more depth than asking ChatGPT at 2 a.m. I work with people navigating pressure, self-doubt, relationship stress, focus challenges, emotional overwhelm, and the gap between how they show up and how they actually want to feel.

I have been engaged in the practice of psychotherapy for over 25 years. I enjoy working with older children/preteens, teenagers, and adults, and the challenges each of these unique age groups present. As a parent myself, I can appreciate and empathize with the stress that can go along with this family role, as well as its joys. In my sessions I strive to ensure that those individuals I'm working with feel respected, valued, and truly heard, regardless of age. And I invite feedback during our work to assure this is occurring.

Hey, I’m Sam! I believe that we tend to heal better together as a community, not just as isolated individuals. So, I don’t believe therapy ought to be a stuffy, hypercritical space. As a clinician, I aim to provide language and evidence-based tools to understand and manage your concerns. But as your compassionate collaborator, I aim to give space and understanding through a lens that doesn't make you feel alone. I offer a unique background that ranges from a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Kent State to a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Cleveland State.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
