Whether you want to feel better, sleep better, think and focus better, communicate better, have a better connection with people, it all comes down to living a better life. I help people to achieve any goal, whether it's using hypnosis to kick a bad habit, such as smoking or overeating; or changing negative beliefs, such as not being good enough; or tending to grief and loss by obtaining closure, insight or a deeper understanding of why something ended the way it did, or learning meditation and mindfulness to assist with reaching their full potential. I create a customized approach that suits each client's individual preferences.

“Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain. But you are not the rain.” – Matt Haig We all need the opportunity in our lives to be seen, heard, and validated and therapy is a safe place to find that. Whether it’s coping with stress, processing difficult emotions, adapting to life changes, or dealing with anxiety, depression, or ADHD, I am here to see, hear, and validate you.

I view therapy as a journey, helping to align the inner and outer worlds of individuals through non-judgement, authenticity, and positive regard. In doing so, I value the interpersonal and relational process and strive to help individuals empower themselves and bring harmony to their environment. I find that the urge to reach out, to help people find strength in, with and through their fragility and societal limitations drives my therapeutic work.

Hi! I imagine you are here because things are not great. Perhaps, you would like to improve or change something, or maybe you just want to feel better or more comfortable in your skin.. I know it can be scary, but I believe it’s also brave. It takes courage to admit that you would like life to be different. I believe together we can get you to a place where life isn't so hard. During my 18 year career, I have been fortunate to have met wonderful people and together we have grown. I view the therapeutic process through a person centered lens and as something we do together. I believe it is important to celebrate the small successes.

Poly. ENM. CNM. Kink. You know who you are — and you're not here for someone to validate it. You're here because navigating dating, desire, and relationships in these configurations is genuinely complicated, and somewhere underneath all of it you're carrying self-doubt, guilt, anxiety, and desires and worries you've never said out loud to anyone. I'm Amy Hauer, LISW-S, a kink-aware, ENM-affirming therapist and sexuality educator with nearly 30 years in sex-positive community. I didn't learn to affirm your life through a training. I came from it. Your desires are not the problem, the shame around them is.

All you know for certain is that betrayal has turned your world upside down.
I work with couples who are looking for real change, not just temporary fixes. My clients are typically partners who've been together for more than a decade—you've built a life together, maybe raised kids, weathered major storms—but somewhere along the way, you lost each other in the chaos of daily life.

Infidelity Therapists
How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
