How often do you compromise who you are because you accept the truths of others as your own? How long have you been biting your tongue and prioritizing everyone else before yourself? When is the last time you felt grounded and authentic in your in skin? Are the boundaries you have in place respected? Do the people you share interpersonal relationships with reciprocate the same effort and energy that you give? Do you feel heard? Do you feel understood? Where does your faith reside? In yourself? In society? In something bigger than yourself? Is the quality of your life what you deserve or what you have settled for?

I work with people who have often been the “black sheep” or truth tellers in their families or communities, those labeled difficult or “too much” for speaking honestly about abuse, addiction, or dysfunction. Many come to therapy after years of feeling dismissed or misunderstood by family systems, institutions, or even previous therapists. My practice centers complex trauma and marginalized voices, including LGBTQIA+ clients, and focuses on helping people reconnect with their voice and sense of self.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming or painful. You may appear “successful” on the outside while struggling with anxiety or depression underneath. If you’re a queer or BIPOC person, it can be unsettling to live in a climate that politicizes your identities. If you’re neurodivergent, life may feel set to “hard mode,” exhausting yourself trying to fit someone else’s mold. Over time, these pressures or past traumas can keep you in survival mode, making it hard to imagine a life beyond coping. In therapy, we’ll honor what you’ve lived through while helping you move toward a life that is more compassionate, honest, and truly your own.

The idea of sharing your thoughts and feelings with a stranger may seem odd at first, but when the therapeutic relationship is working, fear and pain become manageable and sometimes even fall away. Having problems can feel lonely and alienating, you deserve the opportunity to find an easier way. EXHALE…it will be ok:-) I have a relaxed approach with humor and an easy disposition.. Thoughtful, high functioning, adults, adolescent’s and couple's, enjoy my attention to keeping things moving, stimulating and dare I say enjoyable. Let’s talk and see if there’s a good fit.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
