Whether you want to feel better, sleep better, think and focus better, communicate better, have a better connection with people, it all comes down to living a better life. I help people to achieve any goal, whether it's using hypnosis to kick a bad habit, such as smoking or overeating; or changing negative beliefs, such as not being good enough; or tending to grief and loss by obtaining closure, insight or a deeper understanding of why something ended the way it did, or learning meditation and mindfulness to assist with reaching their full potential. I create a customized approach that suits each client's individual preferences.

You want to appear successful & like you have it “all together” but deep down are struggling to feel confident in who you are or cope with challenging experiences that have occurred in your life. Instead you just watch Star Wars, The Office, Friends, Big Bang, or any other things you've seen, done or played a million times. I get it. But you are ready to stop feeling numb and disassociating. You're ready to stop letting those intrusive negative thoughts dictate your life. You're ready to dig deep and change those "default settings" into something positive that you create.

Hello! My counseling style is deeply rooted in a client-centered, empathic, humanistic, and non-judgmental point of view. I also hold a firm belief that everyone has the ability within themselves to not only enact change but also be their very own change agent. I believe that recognizing our own strengths and understanding how we've used those strengths to succeed in the past can be incredibly useful in reducing acute symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. As an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, I believe strongly in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

I love working with clients who are motivated for exploration and change, are present both physically and emotionally, and enjoy a balance of support and compassion with humor and sarcasm. Therapy works best with clients who are open to trying new experiences, learning about themselves, and are willing to lean into their discomfort. Meeting people who are in the thick of whatever brings them to counseling, and then watching them bloom into the people they were meant to be is an amazing experience to be a part of.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
