I offer session in-person, or online via video.
Wanting help is an important step towards building our own self-awareness, but asking for help may be difficult. Asking for help requires being vulnerable. I welcome that vulnerability and as a counselor I will provide support, encouragement, and gently challenge you through your journey into building your own self-awareness and emotional stability. My role is to help create a safe space where people can explore their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors unapologetically and without fear or hesitation. I am a firm believer that small “baby” steps are significant steps towards resolving a problem or achieving a lifelong goal.

I will be conducting sessions in-person, via phone session, and via video session.
Life can be difficult. Work, relationships, school, and the various other demands can cause someone to feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or depressed. Add to these common demands the influences of ADHD, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other forms of mental illness and navigating through life can feel impossible. I provide a comfortable, client-centered environment for exploration and processing in order to make life more manageable.

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed by emotional challenges but is willing to seek support and work toward change. They may struggle with anxiety, depression, addiction, mood instability, or relationship difficulties. Many feel stuck, discouraged, or uncertain about their direction in life, yet they still have the desire to improve their well-being. These individuals often need a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they can openly explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. They are looking for practical tools to better understand themselves, manage stress, and develop healthier coping strategies

I have been practicing for over 45 years and still love the process of engaging with clients who desire to grow, improve their lives, and/or solve their problems through therapy. Assisting people during times of crisis, transition, personal struggle, trauma resolution, and family problems is what I do best as a psychologist. In addition I have worked hard to build a Practice involving many other therapists who have the same mission. My husband, Dave Zachau, who is also a therapist, and I have devoted our lives to helping others and building our community based Practice.

I offer a safe space both in office and via telehealth.
Living life can sometimes feel like you are living a lie or a life that is not your own. When you say, “I wish I could do .... but I can’t,” I encourage you to be curious as to why you think you can’t. Your authentic self that resides deep within your core may be nudging you towards change. When we struggle with patterns of chronic negative thoughts, emotional dysregulation, anxiety (uncertainty and fear), depression, grief, emotional wounding/trauma/PTSD and stress (unbalanced life), it overshadows our authentic self. This is when you feel like you are not living the life you want.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
